Pleading for the return of a ring :hcrished as a gift from her dead mother, Miss Nellie Ensign, 18, 1422 1-2 South Sixteenth street, was Vaten by two bandits who had ilimbed aboard the running board f an automobile Tuesday night in vliich she was riding with her es :ort, Clarence Rotchford, 22, 2209 Oak street. The attack occurred on the West Tenter street road. Young Rotchford and the girl vere driving near Ak-Sar-Ben field vhen the bandits leaped on the car. He stopped the car. Peering through the drawn cur tains of the sedan, he looked into the muzzle of a revolver. "St-'ck 'em up you and the girl," was the gruff command. The bandits commanded both to get out of the car. Miss Ensign drew a ring from her finger and dropped it unnoticed to the ground. As she stepped from the running board one of the bandits struck her and demanded the ring. ''There it is on the ground," she sobbed. "But please don't take it. My mother gave it to me last Christ mas just before she died. Oh, please give it back." The bandit returned the ring and ordered the couple to "beat it." Both bandits escaped in Rotch ford's car after compelling him i to jSst City Mail Changes Cause Congestion Confusion Will Be Remedied Within Few Days, Post master Announces. Change of city mail routes from the centra to the new Harney sta tion has resulted in confusion and congestion, according to information coming from the postoffice. The matter will be remedied with in two days, Herbert Daniel, acting postmaster, said. The new Harney station supplants the Union Depot postal station and will be the main terminal for the wholesale district. Local mail will be distributed through Harney station instead of through Central. , Lack of the proper amount of equipment at the new Harney sta tion to take care of all parcel post and outgoing mails has led to the congestion, Mr. Daniel was advised., Though the central postoffice ha9 not been abandoned entirely as a distribution point, it will take care of only incoming mail to be dis tributed throughout the city west of Thirteenth street. - The Harney station will take care of all outgoing mail. "Dolled Up" Stephens Salient Six Being Used For Demonstrations D. (Doug) Bowie, salesman for the Mid City Motor and Supply Co , is demonstrating in a Stephens Sali ent Six, which has been especially "dolled up" for demonstration pur poses yet represents all the good qualities of the stock car. All black enamel has been scraped off the nickel substituted. The run ning board has been romeved and steps adjusted. There is an electric liberty bell on the radiator and other features too numerous to mention, the car, aside from its many im provements is painted a Saginaw red and attracts a lot of attention. The car is parked at the curb out side the Auditorium and being used for demonstrating the Salient Six on display in the automobile show. Doug made three demonstrations in the car last night after 9:30. Business has picked up for the Salient Six. Bowie reports the sale of two sedan in a short time Wednesday. Nash, Kenosha, Wis., head of the Nash and Lafayete factories, will be in Omaha Thursday and will be entertained at a dinner Thursday at the Rome hotel which will be at tended by all middle-western dealers in Nash and Lafayette cars. The Lafayette four - passenger coupe, ?7,o:0, in bjue, and furnished in brown vclour, sterling silver ap pointments, four doors, absolutely dust-proof appliances, and traveling trunk m the rear, is one of the fea tures of the auto show. A stock Lafayette chassis, not made especially for exhibition purposes, is also on display. Ex-Service Men Pick Candidates Move Launched in Support of Kilmartin and Hopkins For Commissioners. An oreanization of representative ex-service men is behind John Kit- martin and John Hopkins for city commisisoncrs. A meeting to torm a definite organization and to discuss plans will be held Friday night in the Paxton hotel. All service men are invited and urged to attend. This movement was started by- Clinton Brome, T. J. McGuire, Allen Tukey and Amos Thomas. 1 A pre liminary meeting was held in Mr. Thomas' office Tuesday night and another yesterday noon at the Uni versity club. Mr. Brome was selected to serve as temporary chairman un til officers have been duly elected. "We started this organization after we were convinced that there was considerable sentiment in favor of the submission of two strong young men who would command the support of ex-service men in this city pri mary campaign," said Mr. Thomas. The members of this organization will finance the campaign for thesa candidates. Mr. Kilmartin is now in the gro cery brokerage business, Mr. Hop kins is a lawyer and served as super visor of the federal census for Doug las county. May Recbristen Sherman Avenue Sixteenth Street The city council is in favor of changing the name of Sherman ave nue to Sixteenth, so to make the name of this thoroughfare uniform throughout its length. The proposition was submitted to the pity council yesterday afternoon by the North Side Improvement club. Commissioner R. N. Towl, announced that he will bring in a resolution in line with, that recommendation. The club also suggested that all north-and-south streets should be de signated by numbers only. Dort Touring Car Received Its Share of Attention The Dort touring car, painted a sedan green with black moulding, carrying out the extreme stream line effect, priced at $1,350, Omaha, is receiving its share of attention among the more moderately-priced cars at the auto show. Several models have been sold during the show. A cut open show chassis operat ing in plain view of the visitors and showing the easy accessibility of all mechanical parts is another feature of the Dort exhibit. Negotiations Under Way for Sale to "Gene" Eppley But Deal Not Yet Completed. Negotiations for sale of the Fon tenelle hotel lease are under way. E. C. (Gene) Eppley Sioux City who operates the Martin hotel there and a string of four more hosteler ies, is likely to be the' new owner. j He was in Omaha Tuesday with his auditors going over the hotel books. Price bid for the lease is between $300,000 and $350,0000, according to Omaha hotel men. W. E. Barkley of Lincoln, receiver, recently quoted the stock at $500,000. From Lincoln yesterday Barkley j gave out information over the long I distance phone that the deal has not j been closed. Eppley indicated yesterday the deal might be closed today. The H. A. Wolf company, owner of the hotel building, has no knowl edge of the proposed sale, it was stated at its offices. The company owns 94 per cent of the stock of the Douglas Hotel company, original owners of the hotel. Three Omaha groups were report ed to be considering the lease pur chase before Eppley stepped in. One was headed by A. W. Nolet, the present manager; another faction sought to induce Harley G. Conant to take it over, and the third was the Wolf company.
