witnesses for Utf state, this' after
noon in the triaf of Richard Dunkle,
chariTed with first degree murder,
for ihe slaying of a pool hall pro
prietor at Nickerson, January 5.
Standing room was at a premium
in the court room and interested citi
zens from Nickerson and this vicinity
jammed the doors throughout the
hearing. The testimony was sensa
tional and attempted to show that
disreputable conditions existed in the
Wickersham pool hall.
Dunkel's sister, his only relative,
hovers near her accused brother con
tinually. The stories given by tlu
Unkel brothers are consistent ami
their versions of the poker game, the
fight and the shooting affray seem to
coincide. Cross-examination was
long and drawn out, in the attempt
to get a contradiction of testimony.
Those implicated in the poker game
and shooting party are the Unkel
brothers, John Lftz, Merle Brunner,
Fritz Radigan, Homer Brown, Glen
Freeman, besides- Dunkel and Wick
ersham. The testimony given by the Unkles
stated that Wickersham was shot by
Dunkle, while the former was trying
to escape.
The first brawl Jwgan when
Dunkletfost with three aces to Wick
ersham s pat flush. The unkels
claimed that Brunner, another player,
attempted to draw out his bet and
Dunkle objected. Three men were
engaged in a fight with Dunkle as a

gram of naval' aviation is to be ex- (
pected, in the opinion of officials,
by the activity of Japan in the pur
chase of airplanes in Europe and in
the endeavor to enlist 'the expert ad-virV-jf
British naval flyers.
Until recently, naval statistics
show that Japan had made little or
no provision for naval aviation, but
advices in official circles declare the. e -has
been Unusual activity in that
branch.
' Disappointed at the failure of the
rsrmsn naval -air mission to sena '
to Japan this-year, at the request of
Japan, 30 officers and nien to give ,
expert instruction, the Japanese gov
ernment has obtained instead a pri
vate mission of 20 ex-naval flying of
ficers and men from Great Britain,
according to the reports. These ex
perts, the advices declare, are to be
used in instructing the new Japanese
naval air service. The party which
is expected to arrive in Japan ne-st
month is taking several late model
