Problems, That Perplex
Answered by
BEATRICE
' The Demon Jealousy.
Dear Miss Fairfax: I, am miser
able at 20 because of jealousy. I
have tried to conquer it, but It seems
impossible. I am deeply in love with
a young man four years my senior.
He often tells me he loves me, but
pays attention to other girls. He
really, carries on outrageously at
times; I always forgive him in the
end. Now every time he does these
things it makes me so miserable,
I can't sleep thinking of it, and I
have come to the conclusion that it
must be Jealousy. Can't you tell me
some way to conquer this awful
thing? Please don't tell me to give
him up; it is impossible. But they
say all dreams come true if they are
the right kind, so I dream he is the
boy I want mm to be, and hope
some day my dream will come true.
S. N.
Perhaps you art not realty in love
with this youth who seems to be so
fickle and unstable, but just in love
with love. Give yourself a fair
chance to be interested in other
young men and see what happens.
Jealousy Is not a beautiful thing, but
neither Is disloyalty and me man
who pays he is ir. love with one girl
and then belittles her for others,
doesn't seem worth much real
feeling.
The Matron of Honor.
Dear Miss Fairfax: I am about
to get married. Isn't it customary
to have single girls act as brides
maids? If you had a sister and she was
married wouldn't you have a single
girl as bridesmaid?
What is a matron of honor, or,
rather, what part does she take in
the marriage? JEAN S.
Have your married sister act as
matron of honor. The bridesmaids
come two by two. They parallel the
ushers, while the maid or matron of
honor stands n the same relation to
the bride that his "best man" doees
ta the bridgroom. If your wedding
is simple and you want only two at
tendants, have a maid of honor and
also a matron of honor.
A Bad TcmHred Lover.
Dear Miss Fairfax: I ani 20
years old and have been going about
with a girt three years my Junior.
We have quarrels that don't amount
to much, but I am afraid they will.
We have already agreed upon mar
riage. But with these little quar
rels going on I think it would not be
as it ought to be.
Most people say .1 have a bad.
temper, but am easy to get along
with, and it seems she can't please
me at times. UNHAPPY.
You don't need advice, young man.
You need self-control. Practice it
and learn to curb your temper and
to be less exacting and critical. Why
should you think it more important
to indulge your temper and whims
than Xo marry the girl you love?
Breaking an Engagement.
Dear Miss Fairfax: I am 20 and
about two months ago I broke off a
three-montha-o'.d engagement, as I
found I did not love- the young mau
enough to many.
Since then 1 have met several
young men. who seemed to be inter
ested in me. but In some way or
other they found out I had been en
Raged, and stopped calling. This

What's What
By HELEN DECXE i
When we remember special dates
throughout the year, and take1 the
trouble to send birthday ahd other
anniversary gifts to our friends, it
is assumed that we have chosen
these remembrances with due re
gard to pleasing the taste of the re
cipients. Therefore, when a "givee"
expresses spoken appreciation of a
gift, it is not proper for the giver
to protest with the pseudo-humility
of Japanese politeness that the
token is "only a trifle," or, as the
Japs would put it, "dishonorably
worthless."
It is not good form to speak. of
what we have given, save in re
sponse to spoken thanks. In this
appreciation of appreciation we
should neither undervalue nor over-j
value our chosen present. It is easy
to be at once concise and gracious in
some such simple "phrase as, "I am
glad that you are pleased with it."
