State Department of Agricul-

in
Rented Farms i in Six
Years 37.2 Per. Cent.
Lincoln, Feb. 3. (Special.) Farm
tenantry in Nebraska has7 increased
from 37.2 per cent in 1914 to 49.3 per
cent in 1920, according to tabula
tions made public by Secretary Leo
Stuhr of the state department; of
agriculture. - r .
Of the 123,631 farms in Nebraska
this year, 60,890 are occupied by
tenants and 62,741 by owners.
Dividing the state into thirds, 61.3
per cent of all' tenants in Nebraska
are in the eastern third, and 61 per
cent of jthese Day shafevrent instead
of cash, which was customary before
the war". ,
Percentages of renters by sections
are 61.3 in the east, 247 in the middle
district and only 14 oer Cent in the
west1, where farms remain largely in
the, hands of their owners.
Secretary Stuhr has proposed to
individual members of the legislature
remedies to encourage ownership of
colonization policies to induce quali
fied men to join in'agricultural ven
tureswith land sold to thera'fof
long, terms by the state. , He says
this plan could operate in connection
with any proposed law affecting
loans or land grants to ex-soldiers.
