E. Sheldon of Lincoln, member of the children's code commission and director for Neb'raskajn the General Federation of Women's Clubs and past pres ident of the state federation. A report by the code commission, which has 15 "members, includes 53 bills now before the Nebraska state legislature.. Of these hills, 32 are amendatory, and seven repeal exist ing present laws, leaving 14new measures. The new ones have all been tried out successfully in one .state or another, "according to Mr. Sheldon. The expense of the entire program, including the school law, would amount to less than SI on an estate of $25,000. Nebraska's population is more than one half children under 21 years old, Mrs. Sheldon pointed out. The children number 600,000. . Seventy-nine per 'cent of these live in the country or in towns of less than 2,500 inhabitants. Mrs. Sheldon declared, and very 'little has been done in Nebraska for the rural child. "Our Nebraska law," said Mrs. i Sheldon, "permit. four months of school instead of nine in some rural regions and children are compelled to attend only two-thirds of '.hat "time." . The measure before the legisla ture provides that every district hav ing , 10 or more pupils shall have school nine months and every child shall attend the full term. Touching upon motion picture censorship, Mrs. .Sheldon declared a questionnaire sent to the city su perintendents of Nebraska bv the code commission revealed that the , superintendents consider from 50 to ; 90 per cent, of the pictures now'') shown as objectionable. - !
