(Special.) The midwest group of farm bu reaus in the final session here went on record as endorsing the ware house act. Indianapolis was chosen as the next meeting place. More co-operation between the individual members of the farm bu reau and their congressmen through, the Washington office of the Aineri-1 can Farm Bureau federation wai urged. It was brought out by sev eral speakers that representative. of the middle west in congress stand ready to govern their actions by the voice of the farm if the farmers only make their wants known. University; Gives Aid. 11. C. Filley, head of the depart ment of rural economics, Nebraska university, discussed the work that has been done by the schoo' alou co-operative lines. He said the first course in co-operative management in the United States was otlered by the Nebraska school. W. H. Brokaw, director of exten sion service, Nebraska university, spoke on the question of putting ;t marketing specialist into each county, besides the county agricul tural agent. He expressed the sen timent that the marketing problems should be studied out before a sp?- cialist is lured. 1 roblems are mo state and national than county," he said. The course as outlined by the rural economics department would train men along co-operative man agement and furnish these men to concerns in need. Founded Upon Education. "The basis of the farm bureau." remarked C. W. l'ugsley, editor of the Nebraska F rnier, "was founded upon education. And as soon as the f farm bureau selects its own con-' gressmen and representatives and elects its own governor, it then goes out of existence." After warning the bureau that they cannat exist and take a nart in poli tics, he outlined the work into three parts first, the problem of produc tion, both as to quantity and eco nomic; second, distribution of farm products; and, third, to teach the farmer to spend his money so that he and his .family have the correct social life. Two suggestions for discussion at the next meeting were: The rela tion of the county agent and his work to the farm bureau, and the co-operation of the farm bureau with the other existing farm organiza tions. Reported Extensions Of Union Pacific Are Denied by Officers: Hopes of citizens of Summerfield, Neb., for the purchase of the de serted line of the Kansas City & Northwestern railroad by the Union Pacific system were blasted by Paul Rigdon, assistant to Carl R. Gray, president of the Union Pacific. Re ports had been current in Pawnee County that as soon as the road bed of this small line, which crosses the Burlington at Armour and ends south of Beatrice, could be put in condition, it would be used as a short "route between Lincoln and Kansas City. Trains have, not been run on it lor two years. "The Union Pacific has never eveti considered purchasing the K. C. it N. W.," said Mr. Rigdon. "The property is defunct, and would only he an expense if taken over by our system. The Union Pacific already has terminal lights in Kansas City superior to those of this line, and our present line between Lincoln and Kansas City and Marysville, Kan., is sufficient." Mr. Rigdon also denied a report from Sioux City that the Union Pacific is conte mplatinpr building a connecting link between Norfolk and that city. He. explained that the railroad now runnintr between these points is sufficient to handle all the traffic, and that it is nOt the policy or the Interstate Commerce commis sion to allow existing lines to be paralleled. (Special) The McCook Commercial club met with the county commission ers of Red Willow county at a noon day luncheon at which the 1921 county fair was discussed. The com missioners have appropriated $15,00U for the fair and the Commercial club will heavily back the proposition, ad vancing $10,000, to build new stables, fence the grounds, erect sales pavil ion, etc. It is proposed to prepare for the greatest fair in this part of Ne braska this year, -with a look forward to having a district fair here next vcar.
