Bcr tou, motion picture actor, claims he telephoned to police headquarters before he shot his wife, Jcanette, in the head at their apartment in the Hollywood apartment; at 1:10 yes terday afternoon. Called Police Twice. Berton told Acting Chief of De tectives Pszanowski ho called the po lice station twice before the officers arrived. Mrs. Berton, who is just 22 years old, was taken to Wise Memorial hospital. Her recovery is doubtful, according to hospital authorities. Ednatilo, a bister of Mrs. Bcr ton, lives in the same apartment. She was in the laundry when the shot was fired. She was hor.rified when s.hc learned of the tragedy, and said she knew nothing of the quarrel between her sister and the husband. Two of his friends, IT. M. Fratt of Muskogee,. Okl., and , William Sil vers of Kansas City, were entering the apartments to see him, when they Iward the sister crying. They did not know anything had gone wrong until they reached the apart ment. . "I heard my sister and husband quarreling in their bedroom." she .aid. "He is very jealous of her. "After he came out, he went down town'and drew all of the money out of the bank and then came back to the house aud said lie was going aw'ay. t - . J? f, ;t - "This was when my sister and I were washing in thewashroom. My sister went upstairs and I gathered up the shirts and took them on up intending to hang them on the radi ators to dry. "As I came up the stairs. I heard a shot and when I got to the room, 1 found my sister on the floor with a bulct wound in her head." Pratt and 'Silvers were also ques tioned by Pszanowski. They told of having heard Berton threaten his wife. Both of tliem and the Wortsmith girl are being held' as witnesses. Berton admitted he is waited in Kansas City on check charges. Pioneer Omaha Resident, Native of Denmark, Dies Mrs. Sophia Olsen, 77, 2133 South ' Forty-second street, died Saturday; night after a lingering illness. She' was ,horn in Denmark and came taj .Omaha with her husband 38 years' ago. Her husband died , six years atro. Mrs. Olsen is survived by three' daughters, Mrs. W. J. Petersen, Mrs. C b. Ooodnch, and Miss Mary Olsen, and one son, Maurice Olsen, all of Omaha. Funeral services will be held at the home Tuesday after noon at 2.
