' ' ' Investors of U. S. -. Boston,. Jan. 15. A rigid .and thorough investigation into the mil lion dollar German mark swindle in which thousands of credulous in vestors, throughout the country have been robbed, has been ordered by Assistant Attorney General Hor vyhz of Massachusetts.- This ' latest get-rich-quick scheme, whiefi promises to affect far more investors and involve much more money than the famous Ponzi plan, was Drought to light today by the rarest of three Massachusetts men connected with ;the firm of Roths child Campbell Co., Ltd., foreign exchange brokers. Already investigators of the State department are on the trail of one group of workers in the scheme who manutacturea -counieneu mams in New York and passed them arounu as, legitimate. Like all the great swindles the big appeal was made to the poorer classes, the people with a few pennies saved and a de sire to make real money. The mark was represented as sure to rise in value. Options were sold at two cents and buyers of these options were to clean up at any time the value of the mark went above two cents. A legitimate business in ' marks has been done by many large brok erage fir,ms but the invasion of the swindlers and counterfeiters into the game has wrecked the market. Those'who purchased fraudulent op tions have no comeback whatever. Attorney Hurwitz estimates that at least $5,000,000 has been stolen from the credulous. Hurwitz declared that the marks situation would , be cleared up rap idly -in this state, and that similar action would follow in all other parts of the country to which the ramifications of the plot extend. A warrant is known to have been issued for another member of the firm of Rothschild, Campbell com pany and it is expected that agents in various cities in New England will be arrested. According to the authorities investors were either duped by counterfeit marks or the offices of the exchange brokers were liound to be closed when attempts were maae to take up opuuus. The men arrested are Nathaniel Goodman of Boston, Abraham Hor rowitz of Worcester and A. Gard ner Bostcdo of Quincy.
