The Sffick Ex change did not repeat the vigorous and comprehensive advance of Wednesday, but the market, after considerable downward reaction around midday, became strong attain and closed with a larg prepon derance of net galna for the day, some of tbetn of considerable extent. - The recovery! in foreign exchange continued, especially in the rates on those European points which have lately shown the great est weakness. Railway shares, which led In Wednes day's recovery, lost ground today. Few of them mad more than fractional advances and one or two declined rather, sharply. There was apparently a good deal of buying .on the part of recent professlonnl sellers of the industrials in which ad vances of 1 to 6 points were somewhat numerous. A few net declines occurred In that department of the market, - b't the gains far outnumbered them. All previous records for the number of separata shares dealt on a single day were surpassed. Both Liberty bonds and the general Investment bond market moved with a good deal of Irregularity and "Without any uniform rise of prices, but the trend of most of the government is sues was upward and there were decided advances in halt a dozen railway bonds. Bearing more or less on the inter national money market and International exchange, today's weekly Bank of ' Eng land statement showed a further fall in the ratio . of banking reserves to de posit liabilities from 7 per cent to a tilfle over 7 54. This is another "low record."- Th year-end percentage of 1919 was S, which was then the lowest ever reported. The Bank of Francs reported an In crease of 467,000,000 francsMn outstanding circulation, the first lncrehse slnco the 3. M0, 000.009 reduction of the seven pre ceding weeks began.
