ISJCvl Reform Bureau Attacks Movies Will Appeal to Churche6 to Rescue Industry From Hands Of "Un-Christiau Jews." Chicago Tribune-Omaha Bee Leased Wire. Washington, Dec. 12.? The Inter national Reform bureau has singled out the moving picture industry as one of its objects of attack and its purpose to rescue it from the hands of "500 tin-Christian Jews." Dr. Wilbur F. Crafts told asso ciates in the reform bureau here that the first step in removing the "men ace of the movie" was an appeal for aid to the' Catholic church, and having secured that, to crash into congress backed by every Christian church and reform organization in the country. v "That's the only way we. will ever defeat the $40,000,000 slush fund the movie men have come to Washington with," said Dr. Crafts. "This bill to Christianize the movies has twice been reported favorably by the committee on education in congress. Representative Fess is chairman of that committee. "He's afraid of the movie men and their money." The riiovie men, however, got their roughest treatment from Rev. Howard E. Clark of the Congrega tionalist church of Plainneld, N. J. Mr. Clark said the reformers had no idea of damning the movies. All they wanted to do, he declared, was to save them from their present owners. When I say that. I mean that the movies are in bad company; my meaning ought to . be clear enough to anybody." - Piece Work Scale to Bring Lower Clothing Prices New York. Dec. 12. Lower prices for spring clothing will result from action of local manufacturers in placing their shops on the piece work system, William Bandler, presi dent of the New York Clothing Man ufacturers association predicted, after a special meeting of members of the organization. The new piece-work scale, Mr. Bandler said, probably will become operative next week, when, he said, several large factories now shut down, will reopen. Announcement' was made that as a result of trouble witli the manu facturers'; the United Cloth. Hat and Cap Makers' union had decided to in augurate a co-operative shop and market its products. Where is Forward Tigerface, who on the hockey team, Would dash and glide and slip and slide, And swing his stick from side to side, A tower of strength, fair Harvard's pride, A human walking beam? From three to four each afternoon you'll see the hero sit, A teapot just within his reach, a crumpet in his mitt! Where is Stroke McBrawneyann who pulled the forward oar, Who sent the shell along pell mell, Whose giant muscles heaved and fell, And finished with an awful yell Three lengths ahead or more. At Tiffin every afternoon he takes a leading place, A spoon half hidden in his hand, a biscuit in his face! Where is Half-Back Mussumup, who in the days gone by Tore through the mud amid a flood Of arms ant, legs and blows and blood And landed with a crunching thud On some Yale player's eye? You'll find him every afternoon at jrst half after three; The hand that tackled Callahan now lifts a cup of tea! i I NOT SO EASY Once a king was' born to a throne. Now he has to take a civil service examination in order to get on the eligible list for the election, and then, if he lands, go out and raise a campaign fund. THE SOLE CONDITION If by paying the kaiser a pension the Germans can keep him out of the country it may be worth while to do it. Townley and his picked staff of nonpartisan league organizers have moved on the state of Nebraska for a "steam .roller! campaign, which later is tolbc duplicated in Kansas. Iowa, Wisconsin, and finally in Minnesota and the Dakotas. They figure that the recent slump in the grain market has fanned the flames of discontent and made organizers' work easy .in Nebraska. The annual state convention, which was to have taken place this month, has been postponed until February. By that time it is ex pected receipts from Nebraska will have swelled the treasury. Methods avoiding the mistakes of the past have been adopted by the league organization, and Townley hopes to come back in Minnesota and the Dakotas. Temporarily, how ever, these states are left to them selves, and to the efforts of county organizers. Townley has established his new headquarters nt Grand Island, Neb. The new Townley plan is to con centrate on one state at a time and do the work with highly trained and successful organizers. The "steam, roller," with Townley himself as engineer, will move from one state to the other. Meanwhile a similar plan wll be used on the far western states, with Dewey C. Dor nian as chief engineer. All the best organizers and speak ers of the league are being with draw from Minnesota and the Dako tas for the winter drive in Nebraska. For this campaignn the league re cently, bought 50 new automobiles of a popular type and Townley has leased an entire floor of the Koehler hotel at Grand Island for campaign headquarters. Congresswoman Is Opposed to Hamon's Widow for His Place Muskogee. Ok!., Dec. 12. Miss , Alice H. Robertson, congresswo-man-elect from the Second Okla homa district, is opposed to the elec tion of Mrs. Jake L. Hamon as re publican national committeewoman succeeding her husband whose re cent death resulted in a scandal. "It was a great surprise to me to find that republicans of this state have been called upon to erect a monument to the late republican na tional committeeman by the election of his wife to the vacancy caused by the sordid tragedy of his death." said Miss Robertson. "The women of Oklahoma cannot afford to indulge in an impractical, sentimental attitude toward one wo man when that attitude is fraught with such danger to women in gen eral. "The great lcveler, death, is also a great truth revealer. The claim that the dead chieftain was the man whose genius placed this state in the rpnuhlican column is not true, his part having been far less than that of many others and the party in Ok lahoma having, after all, won in spite of, rather than through his work." . Armour Claims Lever Act Unconstitutional New York, Dec. 12. Counsel for Armour & Co., meat packers; J. Og den Armour, its president, nnd F. Edson White, vica president, indicted on 137 counts for alleged profiteer ing in New Zealand lambs, filed a demurrer in federal court, asserting, that the Lever anti-profiteering act was unconstitutional. Charles E. Hughes will argue for the defend ants Monday. ' Grocery Store Robbed. Pottsville. Pa.. Dec. 12.
