New York (Special Correspond-J ence.; to get up a brand new res taurant frock, all you have to do nowadays is to get into a bureau drawer. From last season we have held over tfie thrifty fashion of put ting a bodice of one material with a skirt of another. And a second avenue of economy still open to us is the demi-lace gown. " Black lace and black tulle are seen constantly in both the dinner gown and its more formal sister, the evening frock. Chantilly is par ticularly favored and if we would get up a dinner frock something like today's drawing, all wc have to do is to organize a raid tipon our .bureau drawers. Surely every one cf us has some old balck satin frock which would form the founda tion! for this dress and some other old lace frock which could be per i, suaded to do the draping. In fact, sometimes the woman who is by temperament irritable is a far more agreeable helpmate than the wife who is lack ing, in irritability. But, mind you, being irritable does not mean that you show that you are irritated, or that you actually are irritated often. It means 4hat you are sensitive enough to your surroundings so that you are constantly trying to im prove them or to keep them up to a high standard. If there never had been any irritable housewives doubt less we should alj be doing house work in the mode of our grand mothers. We would still be dipping candles and cooking over open tire places and seeing by hand instead of by machines and keeping warm by stoves instead of by the heal from a central furnace. The sensitive, . thinking housewife be comes irritated at having to put up with the caprices of a wood stove for cooking. And her irritability sends, her to the point where she sees to ii that her house is equipped with an up-to-date gas stove or a new fashioned oil stove. ,, ' It becomes irritating to the house wife to have to use the old fashioned scouring brick to scour knives and other metals; she looks about her for a remedy and discovers one of the many scouring powders that ave time and do away with the ir ritating scouring brick. The house wife who is irritated by an incon venient kitchen takes steps to make her kitchen more convenient. The housewife who is irritated over a house that is always in confusion and disorder is the housewife who keeps her house shipshape. Fresh Air for Baby.
