While the cold November rain pelted his window and while this city's Bohemia ' ram paged outside his door at the Ere iroort, Henry Arthur Jones, cele brated :urne went In a brief interview, during which he gave his opinion upon New York, American amusements, Americans, England, France, Russia, plays and prohibition, he told me, among other things, why the film and the stage win never clash. But first he doled out a few firm facts, as he sees them, concerning prohibition, Said he: New York It Delectable, ".New York is delectable city, though not conducive to deep and prolonged thought, for ,one not ac customed to the city's er running time. "America is a fine country, too. But, I say, how do you get on with this prohibition? I don't believe we should ubmit to it over home, you know "Of course .there are persons who cannot touch alcohol; it acts upon them like ooison. I aam nearly 70, in perfect health, and lor the past 40 years I have had a bottle of wine every day." Pr. Jones smiled his smile of age less youth. His blue eyes are young; his smile is young; also young hi uprightly, friendly mannerisms. What matter then that his hair is white? As he, himself, says, in this city of save-a-second-or-bust, gray hair paver are creatures of years. He sxplaine4 with a twinkle that the name he gave it was declared out by the pro ducing company, and that a new one haa not yet been selected. He also explained that another nlay of English life too big, he said, for production in that country, will he staged and photographed here. He, continued: Difference in Films, 'IThere is so much difference be tween the film drama here and at -home; as much difference as there is between Americans and English. "You people are more alert more open than we are. And there is nothing in England to compare with the film drama herei The Ameri can production is more imaginative, running to marvelous photographic effects. For instance, I have seen nothing at home to compare with the Jekyll and Hyde film in which John Barrymore starred. "American producers are more en terprising; English films impress one as being limited in expenditure," New Weeping Water Church. Plattsmouth, Neb., Nov. 20. (Spe cial.) Ernest M- Pollard Of Nehaw ka. defeated republican candidate in the primaries for governor, is being mentioned for secretary of agricul ture under the new administration. The National Farmers' Uhion con gress in session at Kansas City this week has started a boom Joking to ward. - Mr. Pollard's appointment in the Harding cabinet. Mr. Pollard has the advantage ot having long heen a "dirt" farmer and has de voted the greater part of his life to noriculturaT pursuits.
