Somewhere on 'the South Side re
i ides a mysttrious indiKjual
known as "Rainwater."
Until Mr. Volstead- inaugurated
the great drouth -'Rain wer" was
just an ordinary milkman with
ordinary nam and ' th ordinary
milkman's preference for well water.
Vhen the well-known drouth be
gan, however, "Rainwater" decided

It was at'this juncture that he re
ceived his new name. His associates
found he was wont to mix a gener
ous quantity of H20 with his con

his product at from $5 to $10 a quart
they decided it was "pretty soft."

beverage in mere showers, to be figu
rative. Then he increased the size of
his plant and torrents of contraband
flooded the city.- The torrents devel
ped into a cloudburst.
A year ago "Rainwater" was sim
ply a merry milkman. Today , he
owns $80,000. worth of Omaha prop
erty and, according to associates, is
still living tip to his title

Japan has captured the Mexican
trade in electric light bulbs. The
' Japanese are offering the bulbs at
prices about 20 per cent lower than
the. orices of American firms.
The Japanese are also taking pos--
session ot other important neias.
They are selling crockery at prices
about 25 per cent lower than the
prices of American exporters.
The Swiss have control of the
Mexican trade in watches. An
American having broken his watch,
.recently. tried o buy an "Ingersoll."
He could not find the American
watch, but was offered Swiss sub
stitutes in nearly all of the.stores.

elect Coolidge has been given a suit

western Massaachusetts, a pair of
.shoes made up by the skilled artisans
of Brockton, and he has received nu
merous gifts ranging from a four
leaf clover to the buckeye sent him
by Mrs. Warren G. Harding, but the
latest of all.came when an enthusiast
out in Adrmore, Okl., asked for the
pleasure of giving Mrs. Coolidge an
automobile, "
