By ALEXANDER DANA NOYES. ( hlrage Tribune -Omaha Be Leased Wire. New York, N&v. 19. Today was a day of disorder financial and commercial markets! There have been more extensive declines, in the market, as a whole, on other recent days, but not many in which the violence of liquidation in certain in dustrial shares has seemed to be so great. The decline was perhaps the more striking from the fact that a distinct rvery had occurred at the opening, notably in railway stocks. Some of these had advanced 2 points in response to the Interstate Com merce commission's over ruling of state commissioners' decision to maintain rates below the liew fed eral schedule on traffic within the states. . Thisarly "recovery was short lived; it was followed by a mass of selling orders which brought the day's total business to the highest fieure since Aoril 22, when the stock market's liquidating movement of last spring culminated and which caused declines running from 4 to 10 points in numerous active stocks. There was little recovery from the lowest at the close. liquidation Not Complete. t rHv toll understood by peo ple In touch with the course of evonts that today s lorcea scums u "-"-fleeted the paying ot the reckoning by .u.u .n.Ala1vA IntArenta which atOOd n. in hw limella-ht duiinc the period of extravagant inflation ana -..1-41. .. vao. nr an ,fO. In face of the increased- crop estimates, to the reck less attempt at holding cotton by brute force around 4 cents are now struggling to turn what they can of their collateral Into cash. Tho wheat market liquidation Is more obscure. Chicago was inclined to ascribe it to the breakdown of the reported farmers' experiment ot refusing to sell until a $3 price' had been restored. Some such holding back of grain undoubtedly has followed the grain growers' propa ganda, and this may be part of the wheut now pressed for sale. But the thing has been exaggerated. It Is true that laxt week's receipts at the four great markets, west and southwest of Chicago, were 2.000.0(10 bushels less than in the first week of October, when the propaganda was begi-enlng; ret a 25-cent fan in tne price, such ns occurred in the Interval, would of Itself have checked the "primary move ment" under any clrcumstar-cea. Probably what has actually happened Is that speculators on the Board of Trade Itself where It was freely predicted six months ago. that withdrawal of the gov ernment's guaranteed price would aend wheat to $3.30 have simply reached the end of their rope.
