Harding Victory
Blow to League,
Says Paris Press
r
American Common Sense Has
Condemned Utopia Elec
tion Day Bad for
Socialists.
Paris, Nov. 4. raris newspapers,
commenting this afternoon on the
American election, agree that Sena
tor Harding's success is a distinct
defeat for the league of nations as
established by the Wilson covenant.
The Temps says: "The election
may be considered as a referendum
on the entrance of the United States
into the league of nations, the result
of mhich is a personal defeat for
President Wlison."
La Liberte says: "American com
mon sense has condemned Utopia
in all its forms. From an interna
tional point of view tk American
election day was a bad day for so
cialism and the society of nations,
the constquences of which will be
telt throughout the world."
Success for France.
The Intransigean says: "From
the French point f view it is a suc
cess. Senator Harding- has often
professed friendship for France, de
claring that France would rind in
him an ally. He will not relinquish
the traditions which bind the new
world with France."
The Journal des Debates says:
"The republican party, fundamen
tally protectionist, regards tariffs
not as an instrument of reprisals,
but as one of protection. Such an
attitude is disquieting to us."
The Petit Parisien says: 'Two
questions dominate the situation "cre
ated by the election of the repub
licans so far as France is concerned.
One is the Versailles treaty and the
league ot nations and the other the
question of tariffs.
Exporters Worried.
"The first question is settled irre
vocably, but Senator Harding's dec
laration atChicago in the course of
his campaign is not reassuring for
French ir.anufacturers and exporters,
as he advocated a revision of the
tariff and an increase in the duties
on American imports from, Europe."
.'By his love of order and the
brightness of his character," declares
the Vatin, "Senator Harding de
serves the confidence of the French
people."
Hope is expressed by the Echo de
Paris that "tht discussion which will
be started on relations between the
United States and the league of na
tion, will provide occasion to repair
some, of the faults committed at Ver
sailles." Policeman Arrests Men
Who Tried to Sell Him Liquor
Beatrice, Neb., Nov. 4. (Special
Telcpram.) Frank Hands, Newcas
tle, Wyo.. and Frank Myers, Lusk,
Wyo., were arrested here while at
tempting to sell a quantity of whis
ky to Policeman Paul Acton, who
posed as an insurance agent. They
were in possession of an automobile
, which officers believe was stolen.
The auto was searched and 17
quarts of liquor found.

How to Keep the Face
Young and Attractive
The war to ward off old aire is not to
fear 'it, not to allow one'a self to be op
pressed br the dread of advancing years.
Use only legitimate preventive and avoid
trying experiments witkj preparations that
have not stood the test of time. An enr
tirely safe and very effective way to keep
the complexion young-looking and beauti
ful is to apply ordinary mecoMed wax at
bed-time, asing it like cold cream, washing
it off in the morning. This gradually ab
sorb the withered, faded cuticle, which is
replaced by the more youthful, pink-tinted
underskin. One ounce of this wax. to be
had at any drug store, is enough to com
pletely rejuvenate a worn-out complexion.
Crow's feet and other wrinkle, the first
signs of advancing age, may be removed
by a simple, harmless preparation made
by dissolving an ounce of powdered sxo
lit in a half pint witch haieL It is used
as a face bat) "
