A retrenchment in the operation of the health department, beginning No vember I, is in prospect, according to an announcement made yesterday. This will be necessary to keep within the budget of $119,000 allowed for the year. There is $27,000 avail aMe for the last three months oi the year. Dr. J. F. Edwards, health commis sioner, is considering closing the Kmergency hospital at Ninth and Douglas streets for at least Novem ber and December, and the staff of inspectors and other employes will. be reduced. The total expense of the Emer gency hospital for the first nine months of the year was $14,500, and the receipts during that period were $.1,969. Brief City Neips Dr. Albert Ernest Jenks, head of the department of sociology, Univer sity of Minnesota, will be here on October 29, 30 and 31 to deliver a series of talks on "Americanization." He will address the public school tiachers in First Methodist church at 3:45 p. ra. October 29. He will speak to the Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and other organi zations while in Omaha. .Will Mickel, Linn Campbell, Dr. ;,L. A. In divorce court today the presiding judge in dicated he would grant Blossom Seeley, vaudeville actress, a decree of divorce from "Rube" Marquard, Brooklyn National league pitcher.
