Lincotn, Oct. 12. (Special.) Mrs. Marie VVeckes, Nonpartisan lea'gae candidate for congress in the Third uistrict, lias written a letter to Gov ernor McKelvie and also one to his opponent. Governor Morehead, in which she notifies the two gentle men that meetings have been dis turbed and in-ojne cases called off where she and others ofjier partv ..have been billed to speak and calls attention to the constitutional right given citizens to talk1 as much aJ they like. In answer to her letter Gover nor McKelvie has sent the following in which he makes it plain that he is oppostd to any act which denies any man or woman the right to speak, and while he considers her let ter written for political effect, never theless he isTnot afraid to say where he stands. He saysi "I am absolutely and unalterably opposed to any abridgement or limit ation of the constitutional lights of free speech and the press. I have not encouraged and will not'witting ly permit wlthinxthis state, any acts by indivduals or groups that are in tended to olnce anv illecal limita tion upon these constitutional rights. "Therefore, if you will make formal complaint to me of any in stances in which you feel that ihere has been a denial of these liberties, I shall at once have them investi gated, and if such violations have occurred, there will be a prompt and speedy prosecution of ths offenders. Man Sues Counties After - " Death of Wife and Baby Tecumsch, Neb., Oct, 12. (Spe cial) Suits, aggregating $50,000 for damages have been filed in the dis trict court, at Aubtirn alnd Falls City, against .Nemaha and Richard son counties, jointly. A cave-in in the bridge approach, was not marked -au.d could vot be- seen by an automobile driver, Mr. Hanika alleges. His car struck this approach and then rolled down an embankment. Ten or 12 herds were infectfd but no' new, cases have been reported for sev eral days. i Boy Steps on Match; Barn And Garage Are Destroyed Yutan, Neb., OcU.12. (Special.) Fire, Originating when a boy stepped on a match, destroyed the barn and garage on the farm of John A. Schulz, living pear here, late ves- terday afternoon. Two horses were burned to death and a Ford automo bile, several sets of harness. and a large quantity of Riain and hay con sumed in the blaze. The fire gained headway so rapid ly that the Schulz family was unable to do more than keep the flames from spreading to other buildings. , ( Basset Man Confesses to Killhig Rich Ranchman Hassctt, Neb., Oct. 12.' (Special) Floyd Vick confessed here that he killed Clyde Fatterson, a wealthy bachelor rancKhian, living south of town, on August IS. Officers have been searching for many days for Wick who has been missing from his home. Sheriff Leonard discovered Pat terson's body in the cellarway of his ranch home. Wick confessed on the was done in self defense after the two men had returned from a hunt ing expedition. Methodist Church Closes Revival Meet at Ogallala Ogallala, Neb., Oct. 12. The condition of Miss Nettie Cooines of this city, who was seri ously injured Sunday in an auto ac cident north of town, was improved yesterday and it is thought she will recover. ,Her father, who was, in the car at the time it went Into the ditch, was only slightly hurt. .
