THE BEE: OMAHA, WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER 1, 192o. 1 - t ' ROURKESWIN BOTH GAMES IN DOUBLE-HEADER Ruhr Issues But Five and Ragan Six Safeties Two ' , Contests Scheduled Again ' For Today. . . . ; , i Oscar Fuhr held Joplin to five hits m the first game of a- double header yesterday afternoon and Pat lUgan issuer the Miners only six safeties in the second contest, with the result that the Rourkes copped both ends of the bill with scores of 5 to 2 and 9 to 0. ' Mediocre base ball characterized both contests, ' and, outside ; of the Good fielding of Lee and Mason, the trames would have been featureless. The Rourkc leftfielders not only fielded in his usual style, but he hit thre sacrifice flies that scored three of his' teammates. ' Omaha scored one in the first in ning of the initial game on two walk and a sacrifice fly and again in the third on similar plays. Wei dell and Gislason each singled in Ihe fifth and IMatte scored 'em when he sloughed a double to centerfield. Gisla son's homer in. .the seventh chalked tip the fifth ' Rourke tally for, the game. . !'Whitey" smacked the .ball td deep right, and Lamb misjudged the sphere, the local sec-ond-sacker circling the sae4cs. - A1 hit batsman; a single, double , snd a sacrifice ; fly resulted in two lU'is for Joplin in the first game. .. Fuhr hurled good ball from start to finish and, on several occasions jerked hi te.inin'atcs out of tight places. The lanky Omaha hurler whined three ' Miners 'and walked " only' one ' ( ' The locals rolled their' heavy artil-1 lery into act m in . the second in ning o the last contest and after the barrage ' of hits was lifted, 4 runs had crossed uthe plate. Four jingles, a walk, fielder's choice and an errorj caused the rally. Omaha scored one in the fourth '' on two singles and an error and three tal lies in the eighth . on three errors, 'wo sacrifice hits and a base on balls. . - . , , ' ; Kagan worked in good form and ( dthough he didn't pitch wonderful ball, the veteran player twirled well enough to beat, the visitors.
