What's What - By HELEN DECIE , French women and English wom- en rarely wear palpably precious stones in daylight and many Ameri- can women ioiiow ineir sensiDie ex ample. But some who should know better wear at all hours jewelry in profusion such as an old time west ern, saloonkeeper's wife might have exhibited in proof that she' was "real . rich.". ' - A modest string of pearls, real or, simulated, and opaque gems, tur : cjuoise, jade, agate, etc., may be worn in the afternoon, although some women prefer the translucent semi-precious stones such as ame . thyst and topaz. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and "ropes" of-pearls be long to the "evening, when their ' splendor is most effective. In these days of social uhrestj it is not only bad taste, but bad sense, to make public exhibition of a fortune in jew elry. ; . . 1 Mf -Ti- I ft, if Compkxiott Dalteately oft and roflntd . Problems That Perplex Answered By BEATRICE FAIRFAX remela: Since you live In the country you doubtless have a great deal of outdoors. Have an outdoor party by all means. The lawn may be converted into a regular Japanese garden with lan terns which you can rent at your drug stores. Food may be served at little tables. Hot chocolate, sand wiches and little cakes make nice refreshment for an outdoor . party. An Interesting way to spend the evening Is to play old-fashioned games. Announce the 'party as an old-fashioned one and ask your eld erly friends to tell you of old-fash-loned games which would be suit able. ' ' Get an old victrola or talking ma chine and dance the Virginia reel or one of those old-fashioned circle dances to complete the fun. How had he known that this physician was named "Jim." Besides, the way he spoke the name told me intuitively that 'the doctor was a personality of which he had known before. His appearance at this time was, I was sure, at least the second chapter in Dicky's knowledge of him.
