Diet Expert Says Pastries Are

A -campaign against pic and cake
will "be carried into the public
schools during the school year
which begins next month. This has
nothing to do with the high cost of
living, but will be in connection with
a nutrition program which will be
promoted by the medical department
of the schools.
Miss Charlotte Townsend. super
visor ot the medical inspection de
partment in the schools, will direct
the attack against pie and cake,
which she insists should not be in
cluded in the dietary regimen of boys
and girls.
She will endeavor to convince the
kiddies that pie and cake are not
good for their tummies. Fried foods
also will be placed on the black list.
The school medical department
has received, 30 posters which will
be shown in series to the children
during the school year.
"Children should eat regularly, not
between meals," is one of the ad
monitions. Also: "The child who is allowed
to cat whatever he likes, whenever
he likes, and as much as he likes, is
forming a weak character as well as
a weak body."
Ninety-nine per cent of the Hindoo
women cjannot read or write.

Week.
More than ordinary interest is at
tached to the grist of appeal cases
which will be heard in district court,
beginning next week, on account of
cases pending against persons sen
tenced this month in the police cour,
on charges of reckless driving o'
automobiles while intoxicated.
Judge A. C. Troup staled "that
automobile appeal cases will be
reached in their regular order.
Will the jail sentences imposed by
Judge C. E. Foster of Central police
court be sustained in the district
court, is a query that has been
heard.
Out on Appeal Bonds.
Judge Foster has imposed already
this month jail sentences on 11 per
sons who appeared before him on
charges of intoxication and reckle
driving of automobiles. The fotV
lowing seven have thus far evadc
serving these sentences by filing
appeal bonds for trial in district
court:
John Shu, sentenced 15 day,
August 10.

Except in the case of Donovan,
each person thus sentenced was rej
