Buyers' were more disposed to take hold of the grains and the markets had a sold out appearance. Values,' responded more readily .to the effects of mod erate buying early and, a covering movement set. in, .vhich developed large- proportions ;late in the day. Prices closed at the too. Wheat led the advance after being the leader on the break the previous day and closed with gains of Sc on Decem ber aud'3c on March. September corn gained 3 l-2c and distant de liveries 2 to 21-4c: oats had a bet ter tone and gained 1 l-4c to 13-4c, while rye moved up 3 l-2c to 5c and barley 3 l-2c. With light receipts in winter wheat markets, higher cash premiums and gexl export buying of cash and futures, tho weak spots developed in the market early were of short duration. The selling was rot of a charachter to hold prices down in the face et concentrated buying and prices advanced 6i to 7o. from the low point and closed at the top with December 2.?zi to $2.3.1 and March $2.31. forc ing of March to a discount under Decem ber was due' to selling by houses, who have been the best buyers of late and were closing spreads. The big buying was by Armour Grain Co., Jackson, Sim ons- uay, unomson-Mcivinnen ana i.ogan Bryan. The selling was scattered. Primaries were 1. 134.000 bushel or nearly one-third of last years'. Export clear ances were 1,438,000 bushels. December Wheat Active. There was considerable exchanging of Dec-ember here for export account, the cash being taken to) flit sates aDraao. The dwniand for cash wheat In all mar kets was keener with premiums here 192c higher. No. 1 grades Being ns2c over December with sales of No. 1 red at $2.4602.50 and No. 1 hard at $2.47 2.50. Hulk of the receipts are being aniilierl on to arrive sales. Springs ad vanced 2f6c. Receipts were 72 cars winter, piehr. cars serins, and 30 cars mixed. Minneapolis was 5c higher at the last. With September corn acting very tight snd wheat strong, the pit element were less, disposed to taxe tne setting siuo i the deferred deliveries of corn. Some change In sentiment was noted, and many went long early, selling out toward the last to secure profits. The continued big premiums for cash grain and limited re ceintn were also a factor. A good part of the' receipts of 63 car were apptiea to arrive sates. oampiw values were l2e higher, closing at the top, with No. 2 yellow around $1.66. Som increase was noted in country offering, but this was more than offset by aa im provement in the oostern demand with shipping sales of 40,000 bushels. Oats Strong at Close. Oats showed more resistance to selling pressure than of late. Lowest prices were made earlv and tile highest toward the last with the close within a fraction of the top. September and December finished at the same price, although September was a shade higher at one time later, after being at a discount early. Shere was an inquiry here for oats for export with sales of 60,000 bushels to the seabeard in addition to 26,000 bushels- domestic. Saml pie values were ic higher with No. 3 white 3;H4ijC and' No. 3 white l3o over September. Receipts ' wero 179 cars. Demands for cash rye was good with No. 3 here 17c over September while at Minneapolis 2022c Over was paid. Ex port business was said to be under way at the seaboard, but details were not given. No. 3 sold at $1.99i.0. Re ceipts were 18 cars. A stronger undertone prevailed In bar lev, although prices were unchanged. De mand comes mainly from feed dealers and industries. Some cancellations of pur chases bv melsteis. Spot sales were at $1.10 1. 15. Receipts were seven cars. nt Notes. One of the most significant features tn the wheat situation U the fact that around 70 per cent of the 19,965,000 bushels in the visible supply la at the seaboard and gulf ports awaiting export. The bulk of the 4,010,000 bushels held at Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City and Omahav is under stood to be sold to the seaboard for ex port, and awaits transportation. "Feeders of Danublan states expect ex ports of grain to increase soon," said London cable to Simons, Day & Co. "There seems to be plenty of wheat tn the soutn ern governments of Rus3la. With the de feat of the bolsheviki, we expect exports to increase." - A Peoria, 111., cash house, asked a Chi cago lino elevator firm to offer No. J mixed corn today for leaded te five-day shipment. - J. F. Barrett, who had some corn bought from. Texas, canceled the purchase today on, account o( .the.-seller being un able to load the grain due to wet weather. A leter to IV. G. Press &, Co., from. a Dallas cash corn man said there was practically none dry enough tp ship be fore November 1 without weevil. Restrictions on the movement of grain to Galveston has been removed; Board of Trade directors have sent no tice to the petitioners who asked for a new clear.ig house system that the rule must be enanged to permit its adoption. The fact that there has been no open curnpeiirive oiaaing ror rasn wneat be tween tire continent and the British com mission is resulting In a revival of the re. cent story that there is a genttemas's agreement as to the buying. British are buying Canadian wheat. -A little export demand for barley was reported at Minneapolis. Prices there moved up 24c, but failed to have much effect at Chicago. , World's export of wheat from July 1 to August 21, aggregated 111,445,000 bush els, against 104,704,000 bushels last year. Reports to the bureau of crop estlmatts from 60,000 farmers Indicate that on July 1 there was about 16.6 per cent less hogs. 7.7 per cent less cattle and 3 3 per cent less sheep than last year. 'The foreign trade figures for July were received and bore an appearance different from what financial circles had been leu to expect from the June report.- The record indicated that the decline of goods prices of late had stimulated purchases bv foreign buvers. here. But the Import statement showed that business reaction here, whatever its extent, had not worked to a marked degree to head off the in flcw of goods from abroad. The Lnlted States shipped out $23,600,000 more mate rials nd finished products than in June and received $f,00,000 less frpm outside. Imports were heavy enough, however, to establish a new high record month with the exception of June and were $193,000 9 larger in value than in July last year. The export balance for the month amount ed tat $117,000,000, compared with $(8, 000.0041 in June. The trade record lent nothing to ex planations for-the current declining tend ency oftn foreign exchanges. Europe took a large amount of our exports In July and probablv is continuing to do so this month, a wltnesVthe extensive ship ments of grain, but the balancing factor of imports is also substsntial.
