: wholesale, food prices are comma
. -down, the bureau of labor statistics
announced that retail prices have
' no' struck the declining stride.
The average family expenditure
for 22 articles J food, it reports, in
creased from June IS to July IS in
'32 cities and decreased, in only 17

School Census Shows Only;
31 Gain; No New Buildings

Body of Overseas Soldier
Sent to Geneva for Burial

The body of Frank Bliane Sloan,
who died of nneumonia soon after
arrival overseas with the A. E. F.,
has reached Ne York .from Liver
pool. England, where the body has
reposed in the EnglishAmerican
cemeterv at Liverpool .'since Octo
ber 2, "1918. i His father, ex-Cotir
pressman Sloan, , has (been advised
that' it will arrive here within two
days. Burial will be in the Geneva
cemetery. ,

Plan Operation of Oil
Lands on California
, Petroleum Reserve
Washington, Aug. 20. Plans for
immediate operation of oil lands in
the southern California naval petro
leum reserve, either directly or by
lease to private operators on a roy
alty basis, are being considered by
the Navy department. Action isbe
ing deferred, it was' learned today,
until after August 25, which will
conclude the six months' period
within which claimants to oil rights
within the reserve may file applica
tion for lease under the land leasing
bill. The naval reserve on which it
fs purposed to begin drilling, known
as reserve No. 2, is- that on which
the Southern Pacific ftailway com
pany recently won title. ,
In addition to present extensive
operations on the interlacing South
ern Pacific properties, naval officials
estimated there were approximately
100 producing w ells on the naval re
serve proper, lease to which un
doubtedly will be granted claimants
under the land leasing bill.

To Secure No Limit On

Protective Medical fraternity was
launched last night at a meeting of
Chicago physicians to discuss the re
striction of prescription blanks.
One of the objects of the frater

blanks.", Among the other expressed
objects formally stated are to co
operate with the prohibition authori
ties in upholding the eighteenth
amendment and assist in enforce
ment of the Volstead act.

gency influenza hospital at Washing
ton, D. (.., during the war, sai? the
physicians themselves should be the
ones to decide the number of
blanks needed. Chicago physicians
now are allowed 200 blanks every
three months by the, prohibition di

By Heavy Rain; Man
Is Killed by Lightniug
Lincoln, Xcb., Aug. 20. (Special
Telegram.) Heavy rains visited
sections of southeast Nebraska late
this afternoon, according to tele
phonic information received late to
night. At Nebraska City, four inches
of rain fell in about three hours.
Property damage was not heavy but
it is feared that crops have been
damaged.
Joe Melker, 28, 2539 South Ninth
street, Lincoln, was killed at 9 to
night by lightning while standing on
the front porch of his home. His
wife, only a few feet away, became
hysterical when told tha her hus
band had been instantly killed.

Her husband, a major in the Royal
air threes, was killed two years ago
in active service. He was reputed
to be one of the best pilots in the
British, service and won the military
cross, and the distinguished flying
cross rorjgallantry in action.
Mrs". French herself was a chauf
feuse in. the army service corps and
performed excellent service in
France.
