Chief of Police Marshall Eber stein, who is spending his vacation at Climax, Mich., requested Frenk Peterson,1 United States district at torney, by telegraph yesterday to "look after his interests here until September l,".when he plans to re turn, Mr. Peterson has not outlined the action which the chief expects him to take in the ouster proceedings started in the jty hall. He declared yesterday he believed the resolution askina: the chief's resignation was the organized effort on the part of "old leaders to stage a comeback." Indications are that the resolution for the chief's resignation will be voted on by the council meeting as a committee of the whole, Monday morning. Mayor Smith, however, hat expressed a desire to delay the vote until the return of Eberstein. Commissioner Butler yesterday announced he would vote against the resolution, thus participating a possi ble deadlock in the absence of Com missioner Ure. Commissioner Zim man, author of the resolution pre- dieted that it would carry . despite Butler's unfavorable vote. 400 Attend Elks' "Women's ?' County Board Asks Increase In Tax for Bridge Repair T O'Neill, Neb., Aug. 6. (Special). The Holt county board of super visors has asked the taxpayers to vote an additional S-mill levy for bridge purposes if they desire safe bridges for hauling the immense hay and grain crop? to market th!s fall. The heavy floods this spring dam aged practically every bridge in thi county, and the regular and special bridge funds ai e inadequate to the repairs necessary.
