Chicago Tribune-Omaha lire leased Wire. Xew York, July 13. Stocks were under fairly persistent selling pres sure today until the last half hour of trading brought moderate rally from lowest quotations. At times there were signs of speculative pur chases of railroad issues, which were not, however, as potent in stabiliz ing the industrial group as on Mon day. Taken as a whole, the rails and industrials were equally in disfavor on the long side and it looked as though short sellers gained confi dence as the day advanced. The final rally was not sufficient to prevent a wide distribution of net declines extending from large frac tions to 2 points. An exception uas supplied by the Mexican oil is sues on the stock exchange, Mexican Petroleum and Pan-American Petro leum and transport shares standing out with noteworthy gains. As other oil shares were uncertain in their movements, at best, it appeared as though trading in shares of prop erties located south of the border was stimulated by expectations of more satisfactory treatment by the Mexican government under the pres fnt regime than during the last year of Carranza s control. Trading Decline. Aa the market tended lower the volume of trading declined nmewhat In compari son with the turnowr of Monday and the more active days of last week. It seemed as though the trading element had lost much of the Interest which became evident early In the month when the price list showed strength In the fact of high money rates. It Is said that the market this week la considering a phase of the industrial outlook, which while apparent for some time, has not been emphasized until tne laat few dava. Thla Is comprised In the continued rsDorta of coal ahortagea In lo ralltlea where great manufacturing plants are located. Aa the fuel situation may be analyzed confldentally In terms of Insuf ficient railroad transportation, the former Is to be considered In close relation lo credit. Widespread entertainment of plant operation la considered In Wall atreet com manr Aa nnMihle. hut whether or not this actually occurs It Is certain that the rail road factor continues to keep a vast amount of credit tied bp in commodities which cannot be moved fast enough. Both of these influences, coupled with appre henslon of tight credit conditions In the autumn, are evidently working to make buyers of stocks decidedly cautious and are supplying professional tradera with material for putting out lines of short sales. rail Money wearce. Call money remained at 8 per cent, the same as on Monday, and time funds were In decidedly meager aupply. Through error In examination of reoorted time loan rates It was stated In thla comment today that there had been offerings of time money aa low aa 1V per cent. There actually has been no change this week, blddera at 8V1 and 9 per cent uncovering very lit tle money and signs of easement are yet to be discovered. The government Is sched uled to withdraw about $11,000,000 of bank deposits on Thursday, mis amount rep maanttn nractically existing balances at New York. On that day payment la due on the latest offering 01 treasury cenm catea, about $200,000,000 for the country to retire nearly 184.000.000 old certifi cates. These transactions are not large In comparison with the recent Income tax and certificate operations, but In a tense credit period their Influence la hardly conductive to eaaler collateral loan rates. o,..itnff Avehnno'a declined further and continental ratea also receded slightly, the movement reflecting an expansion of ex Dorts In the last few days. At M sight drafts on the middle London were of nt lower than the day Derore, tne raie being the lowest since around ot June. Chicago Live Stock. Chicago, July 13. An opening decline of 2 to 9 points In tha market for coffee futures was followed by a sharp rally dur ing the middle of the day on covering and rumora of a firmer tone In Brazil. Sep tember sold up to 12.10o and December to 12.20o, with active montha generally soiling some 28 to 86 points net higher, but late cables from Santos showed fur ther declines there, and the local market turned easier In the late trading. Sep tember sold off to 11.76o with the general list closing net unchanged to 6 points higher. Covering on the bulge from the early decline seemed to ease the technical position of the market, bnt the main factor on the afternoon decline was the unsettled ruling of Brazil and a feeling that no improvement in spot demand was likely until there was a steadier tone In that quarter. Chicago Grain Sc on rye and 2j4c on By CHARLES D. MICHAELS. t'hlcugo Tribune-Omaha Bra leased Wire. Chicago, July 13. Weather condi tions over the grain belt were excel lent for the rapid growth of corn. This, with prospects of larger re ccpits of oats, more than offset the effect of black rust in the spring wheat territory and sentiment in corn and oats became very bearish. Highist prices were made early and the lowest toward the clo. Covering by shorts made a mod erate rally from the low point with the close at net losses of 3ic 011 corn, July leading, l'A2'Ac on oats, -hs4. barley. July corn dropped to September prices at the last, with some changing- at even figures against lgc pre mium for the July the previous day. December has gained 2c on the September in the past few days, and finished 14-Xjc under the nearby .de livery, with considerable selling of September and buying of December on the belief that pressu-e of cash grain would shortly be felt in the September. Market Oversold. A commlslson house with atrong eastern connections sold September and December freely, and there was also scattered sell ing of September thnt waa regarded as liquidation by tired longs. At the Inst the market acted somewhat oversold, and Immediately after the close purchases were mads above the final trading prices. Cash corn was 2 4c lower early, but closed with No. 2 mixed at $1.59 and No. 2 yellow at $1.60, off 2o from the previous day's finish. White led the de cline. There was 40.000 bushels sold to go to store, making 740,000 bushels so far this month. Receipts, 192 cars, with shipping sales 35.000 bushels. Cash oat: derl ne 2tn3c and closed weak with No. 2 white mainly 10c over July. Shipping sales, 35.000 bushels; receipts, 89 cars, Oats followed corn and ranged lower. Reports of purchases of new Oklahoma oata for 10-day shipment at equal to 950 96c. track Chicaeo. had some effect on senti ment. Country offerings were larger, but muinly held above the market. There was heavy buyintr of futures toward the last by a New York trader who arrived here late m the day. Rye Market Easy. Increased offerings of rye to arrive and the weakness In other grains made an easier market. Spot sales were at $2.33 .34 Receipts. 8 pars.
