Three-year-old Rutli Naomi Kam merer will be brought back to the arms of her young' mother, Mrs. Anna Kammerer, if the federal gov ernment has the power to do so. And with her will be brought her father, Charles B. Kammerer, to answer a charge of stealing her away from her mother and taking her to Canada. Mrs. Anna Kammerer with her attorney, A. C. Pancoast, held a lung conference with County At torney Shotwell yesterday and the county attorney declared he would write to the Department of Justice at Washington to lay the case be .ore that department and see whether the treaty between the United States and Canada will per mit extradition of Charles B. Kam merer for child stealing. Sister Fails to Find Him. Three months ago Charles Kam merer called at the home of his wife, who had divorced him, took the child and the same day disap peared. Later he wrote from Win nipeg, Can. His sister, Robina Kammerer, made a trip to Canada to try to find him and persuade him to return. Her trip was fruitless. Meanwhile the mother of Charles, Mrs. Julia Kammerer, 1114 Fred erick street, had been cited for con tempt of court in alleped aiding of him in stealing the child. Is Placed Ijpder Arrest. When the child was not pro duced. District Judge Sears placed her under arrest at her home, where she is ill. "I believe the extradition laws will allow us to bring Kammerer back," declared Attorney Pancoast. "and no efforts will be spared to find him and bring him back." Omaha Will Have No Chief Executive Next Friday and Saturday Omaha will be without a resident mayor or even acting mayor next Friday and Saturday. Mayor Smith states he will leave Thursday evening for the Colorado mountains. City Commissioner Ure, who is acting mayor during the ab sence of the city's chief executive, is in New York and will not be home before Sunday. So the 34th city of the United States, in point of population, will have to get along without a chief executive for a few days. Mayor Smith will spend his vaca tion at Wauneta, Colo. He will be accompanied by the following Oraa hans to this mountain resort: Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Sherraden, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Gyger, Mr. and Mrs. H. X. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Mar riott, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Frederick, Judge and Mrs. George A. Day, Mrs. F. S. Dunham and children, Hrs. HarVey G. Millikin and chil dren. Short Weight Charges Made Against Icemen to Be Probed Complaints of short weights of ice deliveries will be promptly in vestigated, according to a statement by John W. Long, city inspector of v.eichts and measures. "We have received some com plaints and our chief difficulty is in obtaining the co-operation cf house he luers who must tesiify if prose cutions are filed in the nolice court," said Mr. Long. "Some hav told me of short weights and then have de clined to assist in prosecution be csuse of fear of incurring the dis pleasure of the ice men." Aged Man, Victim of Heat, Found In Rear of S. A. Woman Hurt In Auto Smash May Be Internally Injured Mrs. S. S. Oakford, 3532 Harney street, is still in a serious condition from injuries received when an au tomobile she was driving collided with a tire truck Monday afternoon at Twenty-eighth and Harney .streets. It is believed she is inter nally injured. Mrs. Oakford was driving east on Harney street and the truck was go ing north on Twenty-eighth street when the collision occurred. Her two children, Samuel, 10 years old, raid Merideth, 12 years old, were hurled from the machine and suf fered severe bruises. In his report to Commissioner H. B. Zimmaii William O. Syas, driver of the fire truck of No. 12 station. Twenty-seventh and Jones streets, said that Mrs. Oakford ran f(uarely into the truck. Mrs. Oak ford savs that she did not hear the tircn of the truck. Japan to Aid Merchants Toki6, June 30. Representatives of 25 Japanese banking associations have delegated the industrial bank to advance capital to business men to tide them over their present fi nancial difficulties. William Eugene (Pussyfoot) Johnson, being advertised as "The man who gave an eye to make Eng land dry," will speak from the stage of the Auditorium, tonight, at 8 p. m. This famous prohibition crusader will arrive here from Des Moines this morning, having a whole day to spend in dry Omaha. A reception will be tendered to "Pussyfoot" on the Auditorium stage for half an hour before he begins his address, which will include a re cital of some of his experiences in England. The meeting will be held under the auspices of the Anti-Saloon league. Mayor Smith was to have presided, but owing to his absence from the city Rev, E. Lamont Geis singer, pastor of the Hirst Methodist church, will introduce the speaker. The meeting will be free and open to the general public. Lost Eye Last November. Mr. Johnson has been back in this country since last April. It was at a meeting in London last November that he lost his right eye. The meet ing was in Essex hall, in the heart of London. The meeting was to have been a debate between Mr. Johnson and R. Mitchell Banks, a lawyer and a wet leader. More than 2,000 stu dents swarmed into the hall and broke up the meeting. The students kidnaped Mr. Johnson and, in the melee, the prohibition leader lost an eye. He now wears a new shin ing eye that would fool the innocent bystander except that it docs not wink. Insurgents Capture City .. Of Avlona, Report States Belgrade, June 30. A eport that the Albanian city of Avlona has been captured from the Italians by I Albanian insurgents has been re- ctivcd by the newspaper i'rava in I a dispatch from Uskub, southern Serbia, the report adding that the entire Italian garrison ' was taken with the town. The Albanians car ried Alvona bv storm after desper ate fighting with the Italians, the I message declares. Man Held for Stabbing In Fight Over Game of Poker Perry J. Smith, 2305 Vinton street, was arrested by Detectives Trapp and Lahey early this morn ing, charged with stabbing with in tent to wound. Smith was arrested on complaint made to police by his brother-in-law, Charles McCIain.
