THE BEE: OMAHA. THURSDAY, JULY !. 1920. DISCUSS PLANS TO HELP SMALL HOME BUILDERS Architects, . Real Estate and Loan Men Organize Service ' Bureau to Construct -Houses. Establishment of an architects' house service bureau in Nebraska was discussed at a meeting Tuesday night of 20 architects, builders, real estate and loan men under the auspices of the Nebraska chapter of the American Institute of Archi tects. The meeting was for the purpose of ascertaining the interest of other organizations in the establishment of the bureau, the object of which would be to furnish plans, drawn by experienced architects, for houses of from two to six rooms. Few builders of small houses con sult architects, said Harry Lawrie, in charge of the meeting. Stock plans at a minimum price, after itte system of the Minnesota bureau, will tend to dispel the fear of expense held by small builders, he declared, and the bureau would aid Omaha by giving builders bet ter homes at the smallest possible price and relieve the housing situation. Establishment of a corporation with capital obtained by the sale of at least one and not more than live shares of stock at $100 each to any architect, is the plan of local archi tects. ,' Different models of houses of ?mall size would be designed by the corporation and complete plans sold to prospective builders at a cost of $18 to $32. Money obtained from the plans would be used to defray expenses of tie bureau, the price of the plans Mrs. Dick Denies All Rumors of Divorce FORCE - DICK lMg Mrs. Madeline Force Astor-Dick, former wife of Col. Mugg" and "Chelsea McBride" Also Unable to See Why the Boys in Back Room Don't Give The Nudge to Delegates As to Who Is Their Choice. I5y A. Miife. 1-leenU to tlif Democratio .Niition.il Convention. PER DAMON RUNYON. (Copyright, I'tMII. By the International News Service.) San Francisco, June 30. My friend, Chelsea McBride, and this Cocfy Beers, the nut, are getting very impatient indeed -about this democratic convention, because they arc anxious to get back home and attend to business or, ar.yway, they are anxious to get back home. They are in to see me this morn ing before I am out of the hay, what with looking around last night to see if the Barbary Coast is anything like it used lo be, and one thing and another, and Chelsea McBride also says to me like this, "Stop clown ing," Chelsea says. "When do we get the old nudge to nominate this candidate, and who do the boys in the back room decide on?" Well, of course, I dej not know anything about the boys in the back room, and as far as that goes, I do not know if there are' any of the boys in the back room, but Chelsea McBride will not believe me. Knows Back Room Boys. "Why," Cheisea says, ''there must be some of the boys in the back room somewhere, such as Charlie Murphy, and maybe William Jen nings Bryan and Homer Cummings, deciding who is to be nominated, because," Chelsea says, "there al ways is. I am around conventions many a year," he says, "and I never sec one yet where the hoys in the back room do not say what is what, although sometimes it is a front rcr.m at that. "Of course," Chelsea says, "if they are not ready to give us the office to go ahead 1 do not wish to be horning in, but," he says, "it seems to us that much time is being wast ed, especially," he says, "if the boys in the back room already pull the right name out of tlft hat. What I am getting at," Chelsea says, "is what are we waiting for?" Well, I explained to Chelsea Mc Bride that this is not such a con vention as he has in mind. .1 ex plain to him that this is a very square convention in every respect and that we may have a chance to get 'any nomination that is going around, except maybe the nomina tor! for vice president, which is I promised to a private party. Furthermore, I explain to him that the democratic voters of the country are running this convention and not the boys in the back room, but what I say about this matter only confuses Chelsea McBride. Voters Have Had Say. "Why." Chelsea says, "from what I hear the democratic voters of this country get their say-scin the pri maries when they vote on their ideas for this nomination, and," he says, "it is now only fair for the boys in the back room to get an in ning or two. What right," Chelsea savs, has the voters to want every thing?" "Look at the republicans in Chi cago, he says. "Do the voters get to run the convention after thev have their say-so at the primaries? Not much," Chelsea says. "They get to cast their votes lor Hood and Johnson, and all this and that in the primaries, but then thev are done, and the bovs in the back room look to day NewVictor Records for July A program of great music such a9 only the Victor can present.
