Inserting Elastic , When inserting fresh elastic in bloomers or petticoat!, draw out lbout five or six inches of the old tvornout piece and cut off. Take a fresh piece about two inches long and tew one end of it to an end of old piece still in the garment, and to the other end of the fresh piece the remaining end of the old piece. iT.it will save great deal of time, as it requires but a few minutes to do this instead of the old way of ripping the hem and drawing the new piece of elastic through, then sewing the ehds together and clos ing the hem. A Good Purse. An old spectacle case makes a good purse for small coins, as they can be easily, shifted to find the ex act change. Tickets can be' carried in it and kept from crumpling. Molding Puddings ' When molding puddings or cus tards in individual receptacles, a fine way to brown the meringue without injuring the dish is to fill gem tins with water. Then place a spoonful of meringue on each little pan of water. Place in the oven and brown, then remove each one with a pan cake -turner and place on the pud dings. They look as though brown ed on the pudding. Problems That Perplex Answered By BEATRICE FAIRFAX In a Hurry to Marry. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: I am 18. For six months I have been going about with a girl a year younger than myself. I love her and have told her. so, but she will not consider marriage until her education Is finished, in the mean time, as I am way from home, I do not see her very often, and from re ports from my friends, she is be having badly, going about with a crowd of boys and girls whose repu tations are not the best. Would it be proper for me to argue marriage now? B. M. The girl is probably right in her views. At any rate if she does not wish- to. marry, you have no reason to object as to what she does. It is unfortunate for her that she goes about with boys and girls of bad reputation, but would you want to marry a girl of that kind in any event?' Winning His Affection. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: Quite awhile ago I met a man of 23, to whom I became greatly attached. We have become good pals. He claims that he cares a great deal for me, but cannot love me, al though it wouldn't take very much to make him do so. Now, Miss Fairfax, how can I win his affection, as I do love him most sincerely? I am 20. R.S. I should say the surest way for you- to lose his affection is to try to make him fall in love with you. He evidently is frank enough. Why not ?o along as friends and see other men on a friendly basis? He may change his mind. If you really love him you will never win him by letting him see that he is indispen sable to your happiness. The Birthday Gift. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: I have known a man three years my senior for almost a year. Recent ly he took a trip, during which time we corresponded frequently. Now, there has never, been any under standing but friendship between us. He happens to know my birthday, and I learned that he is going to give me a girt for my birthday. Would it be proper for me to accept It, of course, as a gift from friend? CONSTANCE. It is quite all right for htm to give you a present on your birthday, pro vided, of course. It is a simple gift It may be candy or a book or flow ers. If he gives you an expensive present it will be in poor taste. The Divorced Man. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: I have become acquainted with a young man five years my senior at my place of business. He has been paying markedi .attention to me, and has asked me to accompany him to a ball to be given by my place of business. Now I find that he is a divorced man, which fact he has not con fided to me as yet. Do you consider it proper for me to go to the dance with him? UNDECIDED. He should have told , you about the divorce. It is proper to go to the ball with him if you are to be among friends, have the consent of your parents and the entertainment is to be properly chaperoned. He may tell you about his divorce. If he does not I would be inclined to mistrust him. As to Kissing. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: "Is It proper for a man and girl who go about together to kiss each other good-night in the pretence of the young lady's relatives?" J. P. I It Is not proper unless they are 1 engaged. The Unengaged .giil is cheapening herself whenever she al lows a man to kiss her.
