DEFATE'S GREW
BOWS TO DEFEAT
BEFORE ROURKES
t
Oscar Fuhr Holds Sioux City
In Check After First Two
Innings While Omaha :
1 Tallies Eight.
While Oscar Fuhr held Sioux City
safely in check after the first two in
nings. Pa Rourke's pennant-chasers
copped the second game of the series
yesterday afternoon before the larg
est crowd the Rourkes have drawn
this year.
The final score was 8 to 3.
The visitors started in great shape
hut they finished in a muddle.
Crouch, the first man up, singled
through the box, Marr walked. An
tonio Defate rolled an easy one to
Gislason. Robinsofi walked, filling
the bases. Reichle whaled a .double
into deep right, scoring two. Mc
Candless and Altcrmatt were easy
outs.
Locals Tie Score.
The Rourkes were Yigflit back at
'em with, two tallies in their half
of the first inning. Gislason drew
a base on balls, but was caught steal
ing. WeidelJ grounded out Platte
singled, Donica walked and lelivelt
Miigled, scoring Platte. With two
strikes on Lee, Harry Donica pil
fered home plate. Score: Omaha, 2;
Sioux City, 2.
y Dorman opened the Sioux's second
session with a single. Fletcher
fanned. Crouch sailed a single over
third, scoring Oorman. Marr and
Defate grounded out. ,
Omaha lit into Fletcher in the
fourth and aided materially by Count
Defeat, chalked up more peaflies and
' put the game in the refrigerator.
All of which angered Count De
feat. '
Manager John .Lelivelt led off the
fourth inning with a neat little single
over short . .Fletcher gTazed Lee's
ribs with a close one and entitled
the Rourke to first base.
Rourkes Make Six.
Mason, singled and Linele
bounced a short one to Deface.
.Tony "saw Manager John scurry
ing homeward and in an effort to
throw John out at home he fired
the ball into the grandstand. Leli
velt and Lee scampered home. Fuhr
grounded out Fletched passed Gis
lason purposely and Weidell lofted
a sacrifice to right field on which
Mason tallied. Platte poled a pop
up just over third when nobody was
looking and made it count for "two
ases. Lingle scored on the hit
Monica sent a liner into right field
ior a single, scoring .Weidell. Dor
man nailed Dpnica at second trying
steal.
That was the end of the scoring.
The crowd had a swell time kid
ling Defate. An adipose gentleman
in the grandstand kept the fans in
gf.t with his suggestions .to Count
Antonio. 4
In the second inninu Defate lined
i foul to the left field fence and Lee
after a hard run turned it into the
most sensational catch made at
Rourke park this year, i

Will Ty Cobb relinquish his bat
ting crown this season? This ques
tion has been in the minds of fans
for several years back, but the Geor
gia Peach continues to outbat the
younsters of the American league.
Critics predict that Cobb will be
forced to give way to George Sisler,
of the St. Louis Browns who for
several years has been battling with
the Detroit star for the American
leageu-supremacy. Sisler, judging
by the games played so fari is in for
the greatest year of his career, and
it would not be surprising if he out
bats Cobb this season.
