Announce in; plans to inaugurate the St. Louis lir mail route 'within .1 few weeks" and the New York-San Francisco, route as soon after July 1 "as the necessary equipment and landing fields can be perfected," Assistant Postmaster General l'rager said to day that the two-year experiment with the air mail has not only proved successful, hut a factor in the promotion of commercial aviation. "The air mail has made mr.ny con tributions to aviation." said Mr. Prager, "the greatest of these being the salvaging and rebuilding for enmmnrc'.al work of more than 100 Di llaviland war planes, and finally the transformation of the single motored De Havi'und plane into the double-motored plane, cither of whose two motors can keep the air plane in the air and enable it to reacli its destinatii. "At the recent aeronautical show in New York City the greatest ad vance shown in airplane construc tion consisted of two ships built originally for the Postollice depart ment. One of these is the largest ship ever constructed in America which can carry two tons of letters, and the other is a specially designed mail ship which can carry a mail load cqcual to SO per cent of its own weight. Heretofore one of the - elements of expense in carrying by airplane has been that an airplane had to carry three-fourths of its load as dead load, with only a 25 per cent commercial load. "The air mail v has developed a staff of excellent aeronautical me chanics, the result of whose work is seen by the records of some of its pilots. One notable instancee was that of a pilot, who in eight months made 106 trips with but a single . forced landing, due to mechanical trouble. On the Chicago-Cleveland division in 1919, 205 consecutive trips of 325 miles each were made withort a forced landing for any cause whatever. The airplane has ..come to New York from Washing ton and from Chicago in gales and snow storms which tied up harbor shipping. It has arrived in Cleve land and in Chicago when it was the only means of transportation cpera tive. During the recent tornado that passed over Ohio and Illinois, in which 103 persons were killed, the air mail made its flight through that storm and arrived safely with the mail in Chicago. In the two years' operation of the air mail service, only six pilots have lost their lives while transporting the mail." No. 1 will arrive from the east at 7 a. ni. and leave for Denver at 7:10; No. 10 will leave Omaha for Chi cago at 2 a. m. The 6:30 p. m. Bur lington from Omaha will arn'Ve in Chicago at 8:30 a. m., on the new schedule, and the opposite evening train will reach Omaha. at 8:40 in stead of 9 a. m. The' new schedules will become effective May 30. On Saturday he will preside over the an nual meeting of the Wryan Literary society connected with the West Chester state normal school, of which he was a member while a stu dent at that Pennsylvania institu tion. He has been in Omaha four months and lives at 1427 North Twenty-first street. Traveler Loses Diamond; Learns Here of Recovery Charles F.. McWilh'ams, real estate man of Colorado Springs, was a happy man when he alighted from a train at the Union station yester day afternoon. A railroad employe handed him a message which stated that his $500 ufamond, lost at the station in Bell ville, Kan., yesterday morning, was recovered. It was found by a clerk in the station and will be sent to Mc Williams here. The emoloye was re warded by Mr. McWilliams. . ' Gilinski Is Cleared Dave Gilinski. who was taken to West Point, Neb.. Monday after noon to face a, charge ot breaking and entering returned to Omaha yesterday. Gilinski was cleared by Emjl Mil ler, a farmer, who said he was not one of the men who searched his place for contraband liquor with fake search warrants last August. Indiana G. 0. The real work of the convention will start tonight, when the district delegates name the convention com mittees and two delegates and two alternates for each district to the na tional convention. County Committee Opens Campaign Offices Headquarters for the republican cqunty central icommittee will be at 310 South Nine tenth street, County Chairman W. G. Urc announced yes terday. The headquarters will be in rooms formerly occupied by the women's committee. The rooms will serve as a rendezvous for republican candidates and for the republican campaign committee. The executive committee to be made up of owe man and one woman from each ward, and representatives of the countv districts, will be announced soon, Mr. Ure said. !
