THE BEE: OMAHA,, SATURDAY. MAY S, 1920. 13 Advice to the Lovelorn Love Comes Unbidden and, "To Love or Not AVe Are No More Free Than the Jtfpple to Rise and Leave the Sea." ; -By BEATRICE FAIRFAX" to I Faint Heart and Fair Idy. vDar Mis Fairfax, Omaha Be: Ir&ve been reading 'with Interest your- answers from readers In The Hee for some time and would ap preciate it more than I can tell if you would help me solve a difficult question. ) Have noticed that most of the querlea are from girls, but am sure you can help me also. At least I hope so. I am a youn man, 20 years of age. The fart of the matter Is I have lost my heart to a pretty little gift of 18 The trouble Is this: The girl has a high school education; I have only a grade education; the girl is pretty and witty, while I am a big, over grown, awkward, sun tanned, bash ful farmer boy. The girl Is a farm er's daughter and lives on a farm. I do not feel that! am her equal and therefore have never asked her to go anywhere with me, and yet I cannot give her up. rethink of her every hour in the day and when I go to some party or entertainment 1 go solely for the purpose of seeing "Tier, and If sho-ls not there the eve ning or day whatever it may be, is apoiled for me. Whenever opportunity presents for me to ask her to some entertainment I lose courage and "kick" myself fpr many a day after. She always speaks to me and greets me with a smile when wc meet, but this is not very Vncourag ing, for she does this to all of her friends. . . Now, Miss Fairfax, yoivhave all of my troubles in a nutshell. Do vou think I could win her love? Thanking you In advance for your advice, which I shall hope to see in The Bee, will close. . "FARMER LAD." P. S. Please do not say that I am foolish or sentimental, for I am really In earnest. . I would not consider you foolish for one moment. A boy, 20 years old. has a perfect right to like a nice, attractive girl of 18. If I did say you were sentimental, I would mean it as a compliment. ' True sentiment is one of the finest things in the world. I do not mean a false sentiment, or an insincere show of feeling. 1 feel sure the girl you like would be glad to accept your company even though you have not gone as far along in a school as she. Your letter shows you to be painstaking, reliable, ob serving and intelligent. You are perhaps a little too sensitive. Put on your best manners and cheeriest voice and invite the girl to go some place with you. "Faint heart ivver won fair lady," you know. If she, is as fine a girl as I hope she is, she will no doubt appreciate an hon est. admiring lad such as you seem to be. 1 Blrihstones. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: I was introduced to a boy once whom I liked very much, but whenever 1 invited him ddwnhe would say he'd call up before he came, but never did. The next time he saw me he would talk to me just a though nothing had happened. lr I would ask him about it lie would say he didn't have time, and I'Vnow he cares for me. I can tell from his ac tions. He left the city and doesn't write. - Now, I don't know whether he has lost my address or doesn't want to write. I know I have wronged him several times, but my parents were mostly to blame. It makes me feel bad that he left with out bidding me goodby. Of course. J knew he was going about two weeks ahead. Whenever 1 don't sleep At night T just think if I could only see him and tell him why I acted the way I did towards Mm I would feel all right then. Shall I write to him and explain matters? UNDECIDED LASSIE. I suspect you are more Interested In this boy than he Is in you. If you have really done him some in justice which calls for an apology, I would write and make it n a dig nified way. Otherwise, let him alone. If he really does care for you, you will find it out , Movie Fan. Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha Bee: Mine Is not a "Lovelorn" letter, although 1 may write one some day. I wish that you would give me, through the Lovelorn columns, the address of Richard Barthelmess. Thanking you kindly, I am, "DICK'S" ADMIRER. 130 West Fifty-seventh street, New York. y B. Ii. M. By no means marry a man 32 years older than yourself whom you do not care for, no mat ter how much your parents wish it. Make an appeal to Vome one in your own town, ir your relatives will not listen to you. Go 'tg your minister, or one of your former school teachers and tell her about It. I cannot believe that your par ents are insisting upon any such marriage. As for your friend, let her manage her own ltte affairs. Hazel ,M. Ij.-Cleanliness of the scalp and good circulation are aids against dandruff. Manipulate the scalp each night when you take down your hair. Feed the scalp some oil unless it is already too oily. It is the dry scalp as a rule, which' has dandruff, and there are many good oil creams for Just such purposes. Ixinrsomp and Happy There is no great wrons? in exchanging rings with a boy. It is a "hd" form of amusement.. If you have a date with a (boy why meet him at a theater at all. Why does he not call for you at your home, which is the only , respectable young man to do. way for -a I Gay: It is rather difficult to criti cise a young man's associates without offending" him; I admire your wih to raise his standards. The best way to let him know your thoughts is to tell them to him yourself. Do it tactfully and in -a kindly spirit and if he truly cares for you and has good judgment ' he. will see your point of view. Let me warn you against lowering your standards Just to keep his good will. He will love and admire you all the more it he feels that your influence is good. I. L. X. Yes. an introduction should be acknowledged. You may say, "I am glad to meet you," or merely "How do you do" would suffice. This is correct for either boy or girl. Write to some bank here about the address. Freckles You should not enter tain callers without older people in the house. I would advise you to go with boys only Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights, keeping the nights through the week free for your studies. . C: The electric needle is the only sure way that I know of for removing superfluous hai Why do you say it would not he ad visable In your. case? You can get depilatories which would remove it temporarily. V v Just AnxiousS Mary MacLaren's full name is Mary McDonald Mac Laren and her address is 127 N. Manhattan Place, Los Angeles. Katherine MacDonald's address Is the same. I do not know about their relationship., Miss Buddy: Vaseline -will help grow eyebrows. Inquire at any beauty parlor for .answer to your other questions. -"' N When a Chinese girl is married she must we.it four months before etiquette allows her tfl pay her first visit to her mother: but after this initiatory, call it is within the bounds of social custom and propriety to visit the home of her parents at her home, j It is claimed that the French woman marries, not because of loye, but with the hope of love afterward. The Ever Popular Beads If a needle fine enough to go through a fine hole in a bead can not be found, try using dentists' floss and waxing the end every now and then with a bit of bees wax. This also saves the trouble caused by a needle frequently un threading. To get the effect of the rather ex pensive Venetian beads brush large oval-shaped beads very lightly with mucilage thinned with vinegar and, then blowi Rowcred gold paint upon them. Glass beads can be colored to suit the purpose with oil paint or hat dye. Wooden ones can be treated with amber varnish or paint. Even enamel paint use about the house for wood or metal will color many beads successfully, and those that are tarnished or have the color chip ped off are much improved with fresh color. To hold them while paintinp them and (t get the color on evenly slip the beads on a hatpin and let them remain on it for sev eral hours until thoroughly dry. To get the complicated effect seen in--many bead necklaces just now that appear to be in several strands at intervals and" then again in only one strand, use several threads for the whole string. But unite the several threads wherever desired into one bead. , Little decorations of sealing wax give beads individual touches. Large black or green ones are particularly effective decorated this way. Lit tle dots of color applied are charm ing. Orange or red is striking on black. V Some good color combinations in beads oi two kinds are violet and crystal, blue and green, amber and green, coral and silver, blue and steel, red and black and bron and yelloy. Silk or head tassels are a good finish for any chain. Sometimes a metal button of filigree design will make a very attractiveyfoundaticn for a pendant for the bead chain. And the origin can never be guessed. Clasps for bead chains can be purchased at bead storesydepart ment store fancy work counters and novelty shops, and they make a 1 chain much easier to put on and take off. The length of chains vary. Some are merely necklaces and others ex tend almost to the knees. The length really depends upon the be comtngness to the wearer. A bead chain can be chosen so that it will give tone to a costume (by color harmony or contrast), add length to the figure, hide the defect of a thin neck and-even make certain colors more becoming to the complexion.
