2 C THE OMAHA SUNDAY BEE: APRIL 25, 1920. ROOTVILLMOVE lllS OFFFICE TO THIS CITY SOON f, Pathfinder Car to Start Out In . May to Consider Claims V of Different Routes. Charles P. Root of Chicago, gen eral manager of the First National Motor truck reliability contest, which is to start out of Omaha in J fine on a 2,500-mile trip to be made in 25 days, Mill shortly remove his office from Chicago to Omaha in connection with his work for the great contest. At the first opportunity in May, when the. roads have improved, Mr. Root will leave Omaha on the path rinding trip. On this journey he will investigate the claims of several sec tions of the country lying within the money-belt district. . Consider Claims. "Chambers pf commerce and busi ness organizations, and the motor truck dealers; and farmers along the line, have placed their claims for recognition before S. P. LaDue, di rector of the run, and automobile editor of The Omaha Bee, which is underwriting the event . These claims have been passed "The best car of it r,-, class in the world" an expression .wmcn me Hupmo We faithfully lives up to.' Victor Motor Co. 2523-2S Farnam St. Omaha, Neb. Hupmobile on -to -Mr, Root, who arranged the tentative route. The probabilities are that several changes will be made in this routing, due to road conditions, the conditions of bridges, and due more particularly to the claims of several cities and several sections which have showil clearly their right to preference in the ar rangements. Consider the Roads. It is quite probable that the start of the contest will be made nearer the middle of June than the; first cart of June, as had been planned. This change will be due to the late season and road conditions. There are other reasons, including the ar rangements for an army and navy band for the trip, and the delay in manufacturing caused by the great railroad strike which has held up many of the factories. Many en tries which have been under discus sion among the manufacturers are now ready for filing and the entire access of the run is assured. Bosch Offers $3,000 Prize To Winner of Big Auto Race Following its practice of encour aging drivers to take part in the big automobile contests, the American Bosch Magneto corporation of Springfield, Mass., has posted a $3,000 cash prize to go to the winner of the 500-mile International Sweep stakes to be held at Indianapolis on May 31. This is probably the larg est cash prize ever offered by any ignition manufacturer in such a con test. Additional cash prizes will be awarded by the Bosch firm for sec ond and third places, $500 going to the driver who comes in second and $2,50 to the third man under the tape, - New Paige Factory is to Be Finished This Month The end of the present month will witness thff rntnnlitmn harriner un foreseen delays, which have ham pered building operations greatly nercioiore, ine nrst unit ot the new Paiire-Detrnit- fntnr C?r ir.m- pany's plant on the recently acquired 50-acrc site at the intersection of West? C. Rueschaw of the Mitchell Motors Co., Inc., Ra- cine, Wis. "It has been observed that body styles last about five years in general. Slight changes are be ing made all the time, but it is sel dom that an entirely new design is produced any oftener than that." "In preparing our models for this year, we realized that the time was ripe for a major change. We knew that if we did not do it someone else would, and we determined to be the leaders." "This decision was arrived at some two years ago, when work on the present Mitchell body designs was started. The bodies have been finished for only a few weeks, so you can judge of the time in between, during which designs were being made, considered and altered to meet with our conception of what the new cars should be." Miller Sells as Many Tires in One Month as Formerly in a Year Sales of the Miller Rubber Co. of Akron totalled $3,600,000 dur ing March, an increase of 1,200 per cent over five years ago or an aver age annual increase in sales of 240 per cent. Since the close of 1915 when the sales total for the year was $3,705, 754 the demand for the product of the Miller plant has grown to such an enormous extent that at the close of 1919 the sales total was $26,476. 211, an increase of nearly $11,000,000 over 1918. Inserting Piston Rings Piston rings seldom break, but when one does it is not difficult to insert a new ring if the job is tackled in the right way. Remove the connecting rod can and pull the piston out from below. The rings may be slipped on or off the piston by inserting thin strips of sheet metal under them to prevent their dropping into the grooves until thev are in their proper places. Pieces of old hack saw blades are good for this purpose. The Ideal Twelve-Month Car The enjoyment of riding in a Paige Coupe is more than a matter of beauti' ful surroundings. Besides being a car of exquisite beauty it is also a car of luxurious comfort. In upholstery and fitments it is all that could be desired. And its fivepassenger roominess is quite the exception among cars of this type. like the Paige five and sevenpassenger Sedans, it is the eminently practical vehicle for comfortable service in any season and in any weather. The motor car is slowly but steadily coming into its own in backward China. The latest reports from that country show there are now 650 cars in Peking alone. As a result of the increased use of automobiles, the movement for good roads is meeting with more and more favor. A modern highway is now being built from Peking to Tientsin, 80 miles away, and many others are being contemplated. Californians are warm advocates of the motor stage. Last year 1,500 stages operated in the state. They traveled on an average of 225,000 miles a day, or 82,125,000 miles dur ing the year, and carried 2,600,000 passengers. Many more stage lines have been started this year and routes will be established between all sections of the state.
