A. Vickers, who was a major in the old First Nebraska regiment, and who served as a Captain during the Spanish Amerjcan war. - , He i proposes a company of the Oniaha battalion of the First Ne braska, to be composed of ex-commissioned officers in the world war, the Spanish-American war and the I'bilippine insurrection. The officers of the company would be ex-service men who were pri vates and non-commissioned officers in the war.' The ex-commissioned officers in the company, who will be privates, will not ,be a'le to rise higher than a non-commissioned of ficer. Meeting Saturday Night. "This company ought to be a good one," said Vickers," for all of them would have years of training behind them." The question of the-company will be discussed at a meeting of the committee in charge of reorganizing the First Nebraska today. ' Enlistments have been coming fast, according to John Kilmartfn, in charge of the recruiting tent in the airway between the Bee build ing and the city hall. IN FAVOR OF BEING READY TO MEET ENEMY i i Convention Endorses Plans for (Universal Military Training. Chicago Tribune-Omaha Bre Leaned Wire. Washington, April 23. Universal military training was endorsed by the constitutional congress of the Daughters of the American Revolu tion, an amendment to make such training voluntary instead of tom pulsory being lost for want of a second. ' The question was laid before the meeting by Mrs. Henty B. Joy, chairman of the resolutions com mittee, Tfie only speech on the question was delivered by Mrs. Al fred B. Johnson of Pas?dena, Cal., a member of the California delegation, wh'o -introduced the resolution early in the week when it was referred to to the committee. After Mrs. Johnson toad. concluded a member of the Alabama delega tion proposed to substitute the word "voluntary" for "universal," and there were cries of "no, no" from various parts of the hall.- The resolution as reported out of committee, set forth that all the great leaders of -.his country, from Washington to RoosevtV, had been in favor of universal training, and that the experience of the men who served in this war showed it a wise policy. ' Three Found Guilty In Connection With. , "Whisky Rebellion" Marquette, Mich.., April 23. The three Scalucci brothers, on trial in federal court' on a charge of il legally possessing liquor in connec tion with the so-called "whisky re bellion" in' Iron county, were found guilty Thursday. ' In imposing lines of $100 each Judge C. W. Sessions blamed Prosecuting Attorney Mar tin S. McDonough for the fact that the respondents stood convicted. The judge asserted that notoriety given the Iron River fiasco was the most unfortunate -fact in connection with it. 'T mountain lias been made out of a mole hill and there has been foolish and boyish conduct on both sides'," he said. Testimony during the trial showed McDonough was the adviser of the Scalcucci brothers and that prac tically everything they did after state police began action to seize their wipe was done under his direction.
