THE OMAHA SUNDAY ftEE: APRIL 4, 1920. rJ B What League of Women Voters ' Is Doing , The Nebraska State Suffrage as sociation and League of Women Voters will hold their state conven tion in Omaha in June. A frequent inquiry comes from women who are interested in the league, asfting what has been done since the Chi cago convention, when the organi zation got its running start. A summarized statement from Mrs. Maud Wood Park, national chair man, covers the situation: '"Some state suffrage organiza tions had changed over to a league of women voters before the conven tion, and several more have done so since the convention. Other states will hold, their conventions in the next few months to chanee not only .heir name, but to broaden the J IIIV.II TT J l W K J llllbl mi. IV T demands. Nationally, at well as in the states, the plan is well under way in accordance with the -program outlined and accepted by the convention and drafted into a Con stitution. "A national manager ' is being sought and the board will be glad to receive suggestions with regard to this most important appointment. In the meantime the work has been divided and is being handled by the board members. "Congressional headquarters have been opened, in charge of Miss Caroline I. Reillv. at 918 Munsey building, Washington, D. C. ' Citizenship and .organization work will be conducted from St. Louis, in charge of the vice chair man, Mrs. George Gellhorn, 4366 Mcpherson avenue, St. Louis, Mo. "Finance will be in charge of the treasurer, Mrs. Richard Edwards, of Peru, Ind. - "Federal legislation will be push ed from the Washington headquar ters, and you will be appealed to from time tfl. time for your aid in this form of work. ," y "Planks' and Platform Commttees of Political Tarties In compliance with the instructions of the conven tion, the board of directors at its post-convention .meeting in Chicago selected from the general programs, recommended by the standing com mittees, those particular issues which are to be presented to the platform committees of the domi nant political parties with request that the issues " so presented be adopted as planks in their respective party platforms. It was agreed by the board that emphasis should be laid on matters of perfding legisla tion ana pressing importance, and that we should avoid weakening our plea by the support of too many issues. '" "Regional conferences and srate meetings are being planned in con nection with the trip which the board will take to the political party conventions in June' to pre sent the legislation which the league desires to have incorporated iij the party platforms. "The league receives the valued. heritage of the suffrage organiza tion, the impetus of its spirit, its years of association and devotion, its store of precious memories and its record of splendid achievements. With the granting of the vote there is being linked with the older suf frage workers a vast body of wom en, some tried workers in other fields, and some new recruits who have never taken much part m civic or club activities but who are now roused by the responsibility of the vote to a new idea of citizenship. We need them all, individuals and organizations, for although we count ourselves a continuation of the older suffrage body, yet are we also a new organization with new duties, new methods and new needs." Herald of Spring Next to taffeta as a popular spring material, silk foulard is found well in the fashionable ring. In bizarre color effects and weird Oriental de signs it fashions quaint and striking little frocks that depend solely on ther material for adornment and eschew all outside decorations, save perhaps a touch of lace or a fantastic girdle of beads, cord, or woven raf fia. Raffia by the way as a means of frock decoration is very smart and vies with yarn. In vivid hues it works out colorful motifs an "tloth and silk models and adorns hats and turbans, bags, sweaters and even parasols.
