; Services lasting three hours were
held in several Omaha churches yes
terday in' commemoration of the
hours of suffering endured by
Christ on the cross.
"Yesterday was Good Friday,
which commemorates the date of
Christ's crucifixion. It is consid
ered the saddest in the Christian
3'car, and especially 1 in Catholic,
Episcopal and Lutheran churches
was carefully observed today.
At Kountze Memorial Lutheran
church a service, conducted by the
pastor and assistant pastor, began
at 12 o'clock to continue until 3
o'clock. Last evening. "The Cruci
fixion." by Sainer, was sung at
the church. It is a sacred cantata
on the sacred passion.
St Johns Exercises.
St. Johns Catholic church ob
served the devotion of the "Three
Hours' Agony," beginning at noon
' yesterday and lasting till 3 o'clock.
These exercises of the "Tre Ore"
consist principally of prayer, sacred
music and seven short sermons on
the seven words uttered by the
Savior from the cross, each dis
course being preceded by a musical
treatment of these words.
The sermons yesterday were
preached by Rev. Father Claude J.
Pernin, S. J., a lecturer in the
school of sociology in , Loyola uni
versity, Chicago. The prayers and
readings were conducted by Rev.
'Father John F.- McCormick, presi
dent" of 'Creighton university.
Admission by Card.
This devotion has been held at
St. Johns church each Good Friday
for years. So great is the demand
for seats that admission was bv card
and the doors were - not opened
after 12 o'clock until 3.
Holy communion was observed in
many churches' at various hours
during the day. Most churches had
services last night. i
Today, which is known ' in
some churches as "Silent Saturday,"
marking the day when Christ was in
the grave, will be observed with
special services preparatory to Eas
' ter Suiiday.V

Nature Plays April Fool
', Joke On Omaha Burglars
Mother Nature's April Fool joke
in the form of a tov blizzard Thurs
day night caught Omaha burglars
ttuawares, as evidenced by the num
ber of overeats stolen from citizens
during the night.
Fred Thomas, Twenty-fourth and
Erskine streets, L. W. James, living
at the Y. M. C. A., C. S. Allison,
16Q9 California street, and Henry
McArdle, 1909 Webster street, re
ported overcoats stolen from their
rooms. ' '
McArdle found an old ragged
coat in place of his own. Police
hope to identify the thief by the
coat he left" behind.

theft of five automobile tires from
the, American Railway Express com
pany, March 25, were bound over by
Federal Commissioner Neeley this
morning. Foley's bond was fixed at
$3,000 and that of Chrisman at
12,000.
