The plane, it is estimated, can be manufactured to sell at $2,000, probably less when it reaches the stage of quantity production. Ac cording to its designers, it will be the lightest, cheapest and most serviceable one-passenger machine yet perfected by engineers, working to satisfy a widespread demand for an economical plane for individual air travel. r Weighs But 280 Pounds. The plane complete, carrying gasoline and oil sufficient for one hour's flight, will weigh only 280 pounds. It is now nearing completion and will be ready for trial flights May 1, it is announced. If it demonstrates the success expected, arrangements will be made immediately, Mr. Fetters states, to start quantity pro duction in an Omaha factory. ' Omaha aviators formerly in the army air service and aerial officers at Fort Omaha are enthusiastic over it and have volunteered their aid tor test flight?," he says. "We will be rc.idy soon for flights from Fort Omaha or Ak-Sar-Ben field." Inventor Gives Dimensions. Mr. Fetters gives the following dimensions and specifications: Overall wing span," 24 feet; width of wings, three feet; total wing area, 132 square feet; length of fusilage, 16 feel; motor, 25 horsepower Kemp, air-cooled, turning a propel ler five feet, six inches in length at a maximi-m of 1.200 revolutions minute and developing a "thrust" of 120 pounds; total weight, without pilot, 280 pounds. The Kemp motor, a special aerial motor for light planes, will give the ship a maximum speed ot u mues an hour, it is stated. Gasoline tanks will provide sufficient fuel capacity for four hours' flight. It is esti mated lightness of the plane will make if possible to maintain hori zontal flight with eight horsepower energy. Emphnsire Strength of Parts. "The plane has been carefully de signed to reduce weight wherever possible, but at the same time pre serve the usual factor of safety in the strength of parts," Mr. Fetters i.ays. He ponts to the use of balsam wood and aluminum in the construc tion and the careful grooving of all wood parts. The plane has been under con struction for several months in the basement of the Fetters home. Its designers claim it will outclass the "Ace" and Martin K-3 planes, weighing from 500 to 700 pounds and now the most successful light one-oasscneer nlanes being offered. lney have been selling in me Amcr- can market tor w.uuu. Build Your Dog a House; Give Him Home of His Own. By Q. M. HIDE. Build your dog a house. You get peeved at htm because he strays away every now and then. Wouldn't you stray too if you were kicked out to sleep under the porch or in the barn every night? Well, then, if you want your dog to stay at home, huild him a kennel that he can call home. The design suggested here is in tended merely to give ideas. How ornamental or distinctive the dog house will be depends on its build er's ingenuity and skill. The dimen sions also are for a dog of average size. Each builder should suit the dimensions to his dog. by measurng the space needed by the dog as he lies comfortably stretched out on his side with head and legs extended give him "at least that much floor space in his house. Measure the dis tance from the floor to the top of his shoulder to get the height of the door. Another matter is ventilation. Place the kennel on posts or blocks, with its floor two inches above ground, to keep it dry in rainy weather. Trovjde holes to permit circulation of air. In the design shown here, the ground plan of the kennel is 26x40 inches, and it is built of boards from packing boxes. Each side and end is built separately with cleats hold ing the boards. The floor should be larger, 28x42, set up on blocks. Each ,"ide is 20 inches (A-R) by 40 (A-C). Each end is 26 (A-B) by 20 (D-B) with the point of the gable rising eight inches higher. The door is 12 (G-J) by 18 (G-H)-with the point (L) rising four inches higher. Bore holes (K) in each end for ventila tion. In putting the house together, nail the ends over the edges of the side boards. Get dimensions of the roof after the rest is set up and al low three-inch eaves. Unless you are able to make the roof boards wa tertight, cover the roof with some waterproof roofing material. Give the kennel two coats of paint and re paint it each year. COUNCIL SPURNS HOWELL CRY FOR SI, 00 0,0 00 MORE Plea for Quick Action On Working Capital for Gas Plant Postponed Ordi nance Expected Tuesday. The city council committee of the whole yesterday failed to accede to a written rcauest from R. B. How ell, general manager of the Metro politan Water district, asking that the council take immediate action in the matter of passing an irdinance for the uibmission of a $1,000,000 bond oroposition at the April 20 primary election, to provide work ing funds lor use by the Water board when it shall fannally assume management of the gas plant. "The Water board is going to need money and whether we like it or not, we should provide a working capital for the gas plant when the city acquirers it and turns it over to the Water board," Commissioner Ure stated. "If we don't stand up and go through with this, we should back up and reject the appraisal." "We have no information before us yet to warrant the submission of this additional $1,000,000 bond prop osition,' Mayor Smith replied. "I will not vote to submit this bond proposition until I have more in formation than I have now." Last Saturday the mayor stated that it is the duty of the city coun cil to acquire the plant and then turn it over to the Water board tor man agement. Mr. Ure added that the gas com pany already has indicated that its assets, over and above the purchase ill be annroximatelv $300,- 000, and that the Wrater board would require more money lor working capital. He explained that under municipal ownership the cost of gas main extensions can not be assessed against property owners, as is be ing done in the case of water main extensions. ' "I supposed it was generally un derstood that more money than the actual appraised valuation would be required to start the gas plant un der municipal ownership," Mr. Ure added. It is anticipated that an ordinance will be offered in the city council ibis rrmniiiitr on this subject and that the matter will be cleared up in conference between the city council and Water board this week.
