Save butter and lard by substi tuting the fat rendered from beef net which you can buy at the meat hop for 10 cents a pound. While we are paying 75 ceats a.pound for butter and 45 cents for lard, you can save many a dollar by using suet fat for gravy, seasoning and shortening. It gives a delicious "flavor.. It is quick, clean and easy to black the stove if you mix the stove polish with shavings of paraffin instead of with water. Shave a. little of each on a cloth or over the stove and (See ESSE with ont rubbing the atov is blacked and ootished. Use the same cloth to rub off the stove each day, and it will always look as though it had just been blacked. Baked Ham. ' . Make a dough or thick f aste of flour and water and spread over the ham, encasing it completely; place on rack in faking pan in hot oven. After half an hour lower the tem perature and bake four hours in a moderately hot oven. About an hour before baking is done make a hole in the paste and pour overit half a cup of sweet cider. When done remove crust and skin from the ham and serve garnished with olives. The next several slices are for fried ham. A slice two inches thick will occasionally be, cut for a baked studded orith ham slice. - This is cloves, surrounded with apple rings, sprinkled with half a cup of sugar atd baked with half a cup of water for moisture. Boil the ahank for another din ner and serve with vegetables. Use the leftovers for slicing, or for stuffed apples, tomatoes or po tatoes, for creamed ham on toast or ham patties with chicken or veaL The dripninss from ham should be kept in a cool place and used for shortening in spice cakes and cook ies, for flavors in sauces for vegeta bles and meats, for sauteing, when the smoked meat flavor is desirable in the dressing for vegetable salads and in the stuffing for food. , ' Worth Knowing. ..
