Word of the engagement of Mist Louise Buxhaum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Immanuel Buxbaum of Chicago, and Morton Degen, son of ' Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Degen of Oma- ha, hat been received by Mrs, H. Rosenthal of this city. No date has '., been set for the wedding. Lavtit-Horn. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Horn an nounce the engagement of then daughter, Lottie, to Dr. II. M. Levin, formerly of this city, now of Nor folk, Neb. No date has been set for the wedding, but it will probably - take place early this summer. Miss . Horn and Dr. Levin attended Cen tral High school together and both graduated from there. Engagement Announced. An engagement recently announced was that of Miss Mollie Auerbach of this city and Sam Zevitz of Fre mont. No date has been set for the wedding. TTnivemitv Carnival. "Ye Olde Town Fair." the Uni versity of Omaha Y. W. C A., the John Jacobs Memorial gymnasium, Twenty-fourth and Pratt streets, Friday evening, March 19. Proceeds will go toward sending a university delegate to the National Y. W. C. A. convention to be held in Cleve land, 0., April 10-23. Masquerade. Harmony council of the Knight's and Ladles of Security will give a masquerade party, Wednesday eve ning, at the Swedish auditorium, Sixteenth and Chicago streets. Winter Dancing Club. An informal dancing party will be fiven Wednesday evening, March 4, by the Winter Dancing club at Turpin's academy, Twenty-eighth and Farnam. This will be the last of the season unless a clcsing party is planned. Theater Parties. . Frances Starr, who appears at the 1 Brandeis theater in "Tiger I Tiger 1" beginning Tuesday evening, has drawn a number of Omaha society folk to the opening performance. W. D. For Christ Child May-Day Fete. . , Mrs. Mary Coll Quigley is hold ing rehearsals daily in Kelpine hall at Twenty-tifth and Farnam streets for the esthetic dancing groups for the Christ Child May day fete of Saturday evening; May 1. Children representative of Oma ha's sdcially prominent families are taking part in the production, and the dancing groups will be an in teresting feature of the perform ance. Two groups are now i complete and have spent the last week prac ticing energetically. These are: ' French dance group, with the following children in the part: Misses Margaret Lee Burgess, Genevieve Finney,' Katherine Coad, Dorothy Higgins, Emma Nash and Margaret Shotwell. L. Reed, leave Monday to spend a short time at Excelsior Springs. It is probable that they will not return until just before Easter Sunday. Fraternity Banquet. The Phi Chi Medical fraternity of Creighton university will give a ban quet at the Hotel Loyal Monday evening in honor of the Creighton basket ball team and the faculty of Creighton Medical school. The team is expected home Sunday from the eastern trip and this will be the first affair in their honor. They will also be honor guests at a dance to be given at the Blackstone by this fraternity after Easter. Golden Glow Club. Mrs. A. Wessman was 'hostess at the regular meeting of the Golden Glow club on Wednesday afternoon. The club has just completed its last assignment of Red Cross work and will resume charity work. Miss Ruth McCoy, who is a junior at Smith college, will spend her Easter vacation in New York with school friends. Miss McCoy had a leading role in the Junior Frolic at Smith last week Mrs. R. W. ConnelKand daughter, Miss Regina, who have been visit ing Mrs. Connell's brother in Cin cinnati, O., for some time, returned home Tuesday of this week. Miss Winifred Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cassells Smith, leaves next week for Los Anfreles. where she will be the guest of her brother, Larrat W. Smith., Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Fair, who re cently purchased the Clement Chase house on South Thirty-third street, have ' taken possession. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Davidson and family, who have occupied the house for two years, have moved to the Black stone hotel. ' Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Barker will return from raim iseacn, ria., rn day of next week. Mr. Guy. V. Furay left Thursday evening for New Orleans and other points in the south on a business trip. F. M. Penney returned Friday from California, where he has been soendinir the winter months. Mrs. Penney will return April 1 and join him at the Blackstone. Mrs. J. M. Metcalf, who has been visiting in Lincoln with her brother, Judge Cornish, will return to Omaha Monday and will be at the Fonte nelle until May 1. Mrs. Harry Goodell of St. Louis, who is spending 10 days with Miss Ida Smith, will be joined by Mr. Goodell the first of the week. Mr. Goodell will be a guest at the Smith home for several days, Mrs. Goodell returning with him. Le Mart Club. A dancing party which will take place the evening of St. Patricks day is planned by the Le Mars club. Decorations will be appropriate to the holiday and unusual features will be added to the regular program. The affair will be given at the Kcl Pine academy, Twenty-fifth and Farnam streets. St. Patrick Affair. Miss Ruth Edwards will entertain informally at her home Wednesday evening at a St. Patrick's party. Good Times Club. A dance will be given Wednesday evening at the Lyric hall, Nineteenth and Farnam, by the Good Times club. Eastern Star Matron Is Honored 1 1 it 'ft" its Wfryr Mrs. E. D. Shirey of Omaha, present matron of Vesta chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, has been advised this past week of her ap pointment by the grand matron of North Dakota as grand rcpresenta t've of that state for the order in Nebraska This honor came unex pectedly to Mrs. Shirey, who soon retires as wcrthy matron of Vesta chapter, which is the largest chap ter of the order in Nebraska. Card Party. Harmony chapter of American War Mothers will give a Card party, Tuesday afternoon, at A. O. U. W. temple, Fourteenth and Dodge streets. ' Knights of Zion. The Knights of Zion will hold a special meeting Sunday aiternoon at the Y. M. H. A. club rooms, 301 Lyric building. A report of the dance to be given by the club on March 21, will be given by the com mittee in charge of affairs. Final preparations will be made and com mittees appointed. Conae Club. A St. Patrick dancing party will be given at the Blackstone Wednes day evening by the . Conae club. Municipal suffrage has been granted to' women in 14 towns of Florida. St Patrick. Party. Mrs. George Biller, organizing secretary of the Church Mission house in New York, will hold two all-day meetings at All Saints Episcopal church, Thursday and Friday, beginning at 9:30 a. m. Mrs. Biller will talk on "Church Service League," and "New Plans for Women's Work in the Church," in cluding the reorpanization of box work on "Red Cross lines, and church school work. Entire pro gram will be announced during the week. Day Nursery. Mothers who wish to leave1 their children at the day nursery, 2403 St. Marys avenue, must register them in advance. Children up to 5 years of age will be accepted at present. The nursery, which opened last Monday, is now operating successfully. Special Meeting. Omaha Association for the Protec tion of Girls, of which Dr. Jennie Callfas is president, will hold a spe cial meeting Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. in the Y. M. C. A. The meeting is called for the purpose of protesting against the pardoning of men who have committed crimes against girls. Dr. Callfas says that after the awful humiliation the girls must face when forced to tell their stories, it is not right that a convicted man shall be released from the punishment which the law has meted out to him.
