That Omaha school children are already interested in the coming Ne braska Audubon society contest is shown by reports ,from the public library that calls for books on nature tudy and birds have grown more frequent amvr.jj children. Leaders of the sociev, in formu lating this contest, tltw dates and rules of which are to be announced soon, have prepared a list of 200 practice questions for the school children to study before receiving the final examination. Fifty of these questions have been published. Valuable prizes will be given the winners of the contest, from kodaks books and compasses to hiking boots and field glasses. Each child, upon payment of a fee of 10 cents, auto matically becomes a Junior Audu bon. Third Question Group. The third group of questions to be studied follows: J. Policeman Prevents , Runaway Truck From Smashing Into Crowd Policeman Farmer, a traffic offi cer, prevented a runaway automobile truck from smashing into a group of persons waiting for a street car at Twenty-fourth and Farnam streets at 2:30 Thursday afternoon when he leaped to the running board of the truck and steered it to the sidewalk The truck crashed through the plate glass front of the King drua store. No one was injured. Leonard O'Dea, Twenty-sixth and P streets, driver of the truck, was arrested for allowing the car to stand 011 a hill without brakes being ap plied. He was fined $15 and costs in Central police court yesterday. Three Negro Deserters of U. S. Army Caught In Mexico Mexico tity, Feb. 13. Three ne gro deserters from the American army have been captured near Na cozari by Mexican troops, accord ing to a report received at the War department here. Orders have been issued to prevent other members of the same outfit from entering Mex ico should they also desert. Following the appearance of two United States airplanes over San sidro, Chihuahua, orders have been issued to watch carefully for the ap pearance of others and capture the pilots if they land. It was requested recruits for motorized field artillery be sent to Camp Dodge. Succumbs to Pneumonia Funeral services for H. P. Jensen, 48 years old, street car motorman, who died Thursday of pneumonia at his home, 3065 South Twenty-eighth avenue, will be held at 2:30 Sundny after nonn at the Johnson & Swanson chapel, Twenty-second and Cuming streets. Burial will bo in West Lawn cemetery. Pioneer AVoman Die Dwlght II. Beck, 1408 North Thirty-fourth Btreet, left yesterday for York, Neb., where he was called by the death of his mother, Mrs. Caroline Beck, 78 years old. Mrs. Bock had been a resident of Nebraska for 60 years, coming to this state from Illinois. She had been an invalid for 14 years. Burial will be at York. Mold Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Allied Stores was held at the Pax ton hotel Wednesday night. The di rectors for 1919 were unanimously re-elected for the ensuing year. John H. Uolan, purchasing agent, was elected as aa additional director. The directors und officers are: G. A. Bryan, president and general man ager: Mr. l'.olan, vice president and purchasing agent: C. ' K. Seeley, treasurer; Wayne E. Saw tell, secre tary and genentl counsel. Funeral of Woman, Aged 90, Jo Be Held This Morning Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Stevens, 90 years old, who died of heart disease Thursday at her home, 1711 South Twelfth street, will be held at the Duffy & Johnson par lors at 10 Saturday morning. Burial will be in West Lawn cemetery. She is survived by one son, Charles E. Stevens. Mrs. Stevens was born in England and came to this country 64 years ago.
