Affair.

Woman's auxiliary of the American
legion, regarding the gowns to be
worn at the Auditorium dance Fri
day evening. Mrs. Baldrige says the
dancing party is informal and guests
may wear what they consider appro
priate. The men are not asked to
appear in uniforms.
Mrs. James B. Cree has invited the
300 members of the Cecelia club to
attend.
Mrs. J. W. Carberry, buyer of
suits and gowns at the Eldrege-Rey-liolds
company, will give a dinner
party at the Fontenelle Friday even
ing preceding the dance to mem
bers of her department. They will
go from the Fontenelle to the Au
ditorium to attend the dancing party.
Vlaalr-Provaznik.
The wedatng of Miss Hedvic Pro
vaznik and Louis B. Vlasak took
place Thursday morning at 8 o'clock,
at St. Wenceslaus church, Rev. John
Vranik officiating. The bride is a
graduate of the University of Ne
braska. Mr. t Vlasak also attended
the State university. After an east
ern wedding trip Mr. Vlasak and his
bride will be at home at 1514 Wil
liam street.
Engagement Announced.
' The engagement of Miss Margaret
Erickson and Herman Neilson was
announced at a Valentine party
given Wednesday evening at the
home of Miss Vera Wesin for the
members of the J. F. F. club. The
wedding will take place in the early
summer.
Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Tschida will
celebrate their golden wedding at
their home on West Dodge street,
Monday, February 16.
Mr. Tschida was born in the little
village of Anndow, Hungary, 72
years ago. His wife, who was
formerly Miss Marie Wachtler, was
born in St. Johann, Hungary, 69
years ago. They were married at
St. Johann.
Since May 9, 1885, they have lived
in Omaha. They have three chil
dren, S. J. Tschida. Mrs. Charles,
Lfebentritt and Mrs. Adolph Lieben
stritt, and 18 grandchildren, all of
whom reside near them.
Fraternity Dance.
The Kappa Phi fraternity will give
their annual ball, Friday evening,
February 13, in the ballroom of the
Blackstone hotel.
W. D.,T. Club Benefit Dance.
The W D. T. club of the Y. W.
C. A. will give a benefit dance at the
Prettiest Mile club Friday evening
for their French orphan and the
Chinese missionary fund.
Children's Matinee Dance.
The Children's matinee dancing
class of the Prettiest Mile club will
entertain at! a valentine party Satur
day afternoon. Each member may

About Getting Slender.
We are going to talk about get
ting thin then we will tell you thin
women how to get fat. You always
want to know. I don't know why.
Fleshy women would do well to
begin a course in physical culture.
It's difficult to make yourself take
vigorous exercises if you haven't
ever had them. Join a class till
you get the habit, and then you
will be more likely to take them at
home alone.
And if you are fat don't oh,
don't wear stripes that run around,
and do your hair pompadour, and
ruffle your skirts, and wear short
coats with flounc.es below the waist
line that make you look like a bar
rel. Don't.
If you are well corseted, and then
dress in the things fat women
should wear, people won't notice
that you are fleshy. They will get
an impression that is delightful
when they see you, and your form
will not be as prominent as a black
eye.
If you are stoop-shouldered,
throw the shoulders back every
minute you can remember to do so,
bringing the shoulder blades as
nearly together as possible. Wear
shoulder braces if they don't get on
your nerves. Sometimes they do,
and then they are a nuisance. They
wouldn't bother you so much if you
would try to stand straight while
you are wearing the braces, and not
make them do the entire work.
That's what tires you when you
wear braces. You must help them
in their corrective work.
One of the best exercises for
driving fat away from the hips is
this: Take a small stool or chair in
your hands, and raise your arms
above your head, taking a deep
breath as you do so. Expel the
breath as you lower the stool or
chair to the floor. This is strenuous
but entirely effective for strengthen
ing the muscles of the back and tak
ing flesh from the hips.
And swim! It's wonderful to
swim into beauty and it can be
done. Swimming makes attractive
figures.
