South Omaha high school basket
ball five triumphed over Geneva high
school last night, IS to 14, in the
Packers' gym. It was the visiting
aggregation's rirst defeat this seasop.
Five minutes ot plavipg brought
the first score for the visiting squad
when Higginbothotn tossed the hall
through the loop on a free throw.
Many fouls were registered
against each team, ictnan of the
South Side aggregation was taken
out of the game because he com
mitted four personal .mis.
After playing for IS minutes the
South S'.de team picked up its speed
and began to shoot baskets from
difficult angles. The score stood S
to 7 in favor of the local squad at
the first half.
In the second half the Vaikers
played a better brand of ball than
in thr first.
Ackerman, a substitute, proved to
be the mainstay of the Lackers, lie
was sent in to take the place of N'e
inan and made six tallies in the sec
ond half.
Coach Pattern's men displayed
some excellent floor and team work

The Noodle.
When Greek meets Greek Jack Ctirley grabs the promoter's end. Jack
lets the. lads, who Lord Hvron sung about, wrassle 'einselves how legged
and then hooks the scicntitic end of the purse for himself. He parks the
bran. that-steers the tournament. The wrasslcrs are merely the muscles.
Which cranks up the old argument about the ratio of brains to sport,
flow much brains are there in athletics, if any? re they required, anil if
not, why so? Do you need a noodle to play with loaded checkers? Stack
two guys in the ring of equal weight, physique, slapping power and guts.
One has a double A noodle, which is the narrowest si.e in shoes or hats.
The other bird packs an average skull with the ability to think without
the aid of a Weejee board, which is some accomplishment these .lays. 'I hey
flatten each other three times.
The. guy with the noodle stays down until the cuckoo chirps nine,
while thr. other guy pops up after each tumble without giving the fog a
chance to lift. Me is ironed out the fourth time and stays there because
he didn't take his nine seconds nourishment the first three times. The
wise guy tmgl:

fn't always bring home
Allowing that a dumb turtle with a reinforced shell is better off than
a smart porcupine with rubber quills, still, the old noodle is the stuff that
keeps the adding mach'tie adding up instead oi subtracting. Tommy
Ryan and Kid McCoy used to think many a guy out ot a tight. Remember
when the Kid buzzed Gus Plaacke that a dizzy blonde wanted him to look
around? Gus doesn't.
It's a question just how many brains you can u-e without over-stepping
the deadline. But it's generally conceded that you must protect yourself
at all times in any branch of sport, athletics or gambling. Grabbing a
sleeper is one of the little niceties of that nimble game of dotted parcheesi
that has both supporters ant! antagonists. Still, a sleeper is a sleeper, ami
if a guy doesn't know he has won, why ring four fire alarms'' Gambling
should be accomplished without having to set the Kig Hen for 8 o'clock
in the morning.
Is a Yank skipper cheating when he blankets the shamrock fourth,
eighth or 15th and cuts oft" his wind? I ommy Lipton has piped his boats
being surrounded plenty, but he never squawked. Part of the game.
When a three-cushion billard shark shoot George Moore h" always
angles to leave George's cue ball in the middle of the table. George is short
and plump. Any time his pill is in the center of the table he has to shoot
with a bridge. His game shrinks up 2l per cent. Is the other guy em
bezzling him? or is it the old problem of science over brute strength?
The splinters burn 'rmselves up at the barrier, while the wise cuckoos
don't oil up the hinges until the homestretch. It's the old noodleppxe that
kept thr ohltimers like Wagner and Laioie in the game. After Cy Young's
arm had folded up he used to think the ball over the plate.

High school basket hall team won
an easy victory from the Sioux I itv
High .school five here, J'J to l.l. The
visiting ba-keters completely out
classed the Sioux in every depatt
mept of the game.
Clements and Hurnham, Omalu
forwards, wore the most consistent
players in the game. Giehm, guard,
and Smith, center, were the stars
for Sioux itv.
The perfection of team wo: k on
the part of the Omaha five and the
disorganized condition of the Sioux
City team were responsible for the
outcome. The Omaha men started
out strong and led hv a sate margin
at the end of the fir-t half. During
the second period they were never
in danger.
