And political conditions are oiiijj; to be straightened out. because the business of the world, the producers of all countries, including those who provide the capita! and those who do the work, are demanding, with one and a loud voice, that peace and free interchange of commercial relations be re-established. A mere glimpse of what awaits the opening1 of the doors is seen in the statement of the pseudo soviet am bassador, that he has contracts with Oil American firms to furnish food supplies and manufactures to this coun try. These contracts are being held up pending recogni tion of the present, de facto government by the V . S., and recognition is pending upon co-operation of the rest of the world in forcing a return to decency on the part of a controlling majority of the Russian people. Tf these contracts could be i'i 1 1 . the effect of I he tremendous amount of money loosed in this country would be felt in every town and avenue of life. Coincident witfc this situation, the representatives of seven national organizations of l S. farmers and allied interests, have announced their faith in the final advent fo this prospective "big business" and - They have announced themselves ready to fake measures to hasten it. They have vnenmralied congress against all "insanities" and "inanities" of government, and demand concrete and definite action. Their demand is going to be heeded, if not by those to whose ears it. is now directed, then by others who will be put in their places. Simultaneously, respon.-es from fanners all over the country to a questionnaire put out by the l'ostoffice de partment, reveals a determination on the part of a large number, estimated to be :0 per cent, to cut down their acreage and production during the coining year. This appears to be an act of reprisal. Hut it is not. If is nothing more or less than an ex pression of the determination of the farmers to "get action" by the only legal means of force at. their com mand. They perceive thee green vistas of opportunity, and realize that the only way in which they can get to them is to smooth out the political obstructions that lie along the pathway. "Fighting the deil wild fire" is their idea, and their method is to drive up prices by reducing production, the expected result being to force a general show down on the pari of the high wage fanatic, the crafty prifiteer. the jjrreed capitalist, and the political opportunist. 'I he "showdown" is bound to come, and when it does, and all get together, sanely and sensibly, to work together, justly and equitably, each doing his share and each taking his share, then will the doors be thrown open, and all line up with their market baskets at the counter, on the other side of which the nations of the world will be standing with bursting wallets and hods of money. Russia has millions ami millions of cash to spend, despite the orgies through which the country has passed. And no country has the stuff to exchange for its bil lions but t he United Stales.
