THE BEE: OMAHA, SATURDAY, JANUARY 3, 1920. Transition of J icarilla Indian Reservation Albuquerquee, N. M., Jan. 2. From a barren waste of arroyos and wind-iwept mountains to fertile plain, and grazing: hillsides in the transition of the Jicarilla Indian res ervation, near Dulca, N. M., in the period of a few short years, since 1916. , I'ato Sells, United States Indian commissioner, recently completed a tour of inspection of this famous reservation that was doomed to de cay, with the redmen rapidly dwin dling from tha whita plague. In 1916 statistics indicated that thie death, rata far exceeded the birth rate, and some "experts" even named the date when the Jicarillas would be extinct. Through the efforts of the In- dian commission at Washington the reservation today is a stretch of rich farmland, with hundreds of herds of cattle and sheep grazing on tha hill sides; the redskins are happy and prosperous, and enjoying enlighten ment from nnmerous vocational schools established in the district Every woman should be a pur chasing agent for her household; a good buyer keeps well posted; to do so read The Bee ads. He is at his home here, now able to walk about the house and to use his left hand. Curtis suffered a fractured skul , a crushed right arm, two broken wrists, a broken hip, and every part of his body was battered and bruised. The sophomores at Cornell were hazing the freshmen. Curtis, a sopho more had no part in the hazing. However, as he was returning to his room about midnight he was seized by three freshmen. There was a lively tussle. The struggle continued acros the room. Curtis caused the three students to loosen their hold. As he did so he fell back .on to the open window sill. Losing his balance, Curtis plunged head foremost to the ground, four stories below.
