Mexico City, Dec. 24 Resolutions of protest against "projected philan- thropic intervention in Mexican af fairs by the recent reformed Child hood "Conservation league of the United States," were adopted at a meeting of the Mexican feminlit council yesterday. ' The league, which, it is said, "proposes, with the financial backing of a group of the targest.and best known magnates of the United States, to spend from $2,000,000 to $4,000,000 annually on charitable propaganda in Mexico," is said to be a "far sighted scheme to bring about ultimate intervention in Mexican affairs." Scnota Elena Torres, general sec retary of the feminist council, today gave the following statement to the Associated Press. Outside Aid Uninvited. "Mexican women hold Mexico it self to be best able to judge its own needs and to find a way to satisfy them in due time. Outside aid, how ever, well meant, is entirely unin vited. ' "Those desiring to spend money to relieve temporary strictures in Mexico incident to the 10-year rev olution may find means through Mexican institutions already organ ized for that purpose. Above all, before seeking external objects of charity, those benevolently inclined United States citizens desi.oys of re lieving suffering has best take care of those .1,000,000 to 6,000,000 chil dren which the 1919 report of the children's bureau at Washington de clares are dying annually in the United States from hunger and nial- . nutrition. See Intervention Move. "The Mexican . feminist council also holds that those persons finan cially supporting the movement are the same individuals who have agi tated most insistently for interven tion and curtailment of Mexican lib erties. Financiers heading the list of patrons of the so-called childhood conservation league are those bank ers, oil barons, philanthropists and notable men who figure most promi nently in societies and associations for the protection of American rights in Mexico. "Agnes C. Laut, secretary of the new charitable organization, but better known as a confidential sec retary to financial magnates than an organizer of benevolent institutions, was at work purely in the interests of her employers while making a re cent trip through Mexico. It is frankly stated the league's objects are the establishment within. 10 or hS years of strongholds of sympathy : for the United States in the miiVls of the beneficiaries of this enterprise who would be impregnated with new culture and new patriotism which I would train them to acceptance rather than revolt against possible armed intervention in Mexico. Move Would Help Plan. "The effect upon the minds of the unsuspecting masses of such-an annual expenditure of money in Mexico by .the United States would forward the sinister purposes of the interventionists, who thus could convince those people that Mexico was unable to solve its own orob- Jems and care for its own citizens without outside assistance. . - "The Mexican feminist council calls upon every Mexican citizen, man and woman, to resist this overt attack upon national self-respect and dignity and to find some means -themselves of solving pressing probi lems of national reconstruction."
