Shortest Day of Year Really December 22,' Says lick Professor The shortest day of the vear is December 22, according to Prof. E. L. Stanton, of Lick observatory, who spent yesterday visiting friends at the South Side stock, yards on his way home in California. "Although December 21 is the day the average person believes to be the shortest," said Prof. Stan ton, "such is not the case. The shortest day of the year is that day when the sun is farthest south of the equator. The sun gets to that point at 2:2? p. m. on December 22, and therefore that day is the short est, by a few seconds, of any day in the year. "As the time varies in different parts of the world, the exact setting time of the sun on that day in Omaha is not known. Here the sun rises at 7:18 a. m. and will set at 4:38 p. nt., December 21 and 22, ' but there are a few more seconds of daylight the . latter day. The short est day is nine hours and 20 minutes long." . Says Husband "Double Crossed" Her in Suit . Mrs. Mable Youle filed an affidavit in district court yesterday alleging that she was induced to go to Cal ifornia . last July by her husband, Charles Arthur Youle, on his rep resentation that h would join" her there in the fall. 1 Instead of joining her, she says, to her "intense surprise he started divorce proceedings in the district court." . , ' . 1 She now lives with their daughter and two sons at 6400 Mountain avenue, Hyde Park, Cat, and says she receives only $15 a week for their support She says her husband is receiving $180 a month as an employe of the Hartman Furniture Co., here, and asks that funds be " provided i for her to answer the , divorce suit which he filed severl ' weeks ago. Patrick L Dore, Retired Union Pacific Veteran,' Dies Patrick L. Dore, retired veteran Union Pacific employe and until his death a trusted messenger for the First National bank, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nora Coffey, 823 South Twenty-fifth ave nue.
