ily during the illness of their father.
A family living in a dugout on Ohio
street will be given assistance, as
will several couples 80 and 90 years
old. .
Living in an alley near Twenty
first street, a family was found in
need of immedite assistance, as were
two old people living on Hickory
treet A widow and six children
living in ' a basement on North
Twentieth street were found in need
of a basket of good cheer.

the whole amount to charity.

Woman Refuses to Let
Four "Officers" Search

Four men, representing them-
selves to be officers of the law, sum
moned Mrs. Kate Huston, 828 South
Twenty-fourth street, to the front
door of her home at 1 a. m. yester
day, read her what she believed to
be a false search warrant and de
manded admission to the house to1
make an "official" search, 'accord
ing to a police report. The woman
refused to admit them, she told po
lice, and they went away. .

24 years old, of Emmetsburg, la.,
attempted sui-ide here last night by
shooting himselt" in the lelt side.
He was taken to a local hospital,
where he lies in a critical condition.
He told police' officers he shot him
self because his fiancee had jilted
