Health Lectures.
The coal shortage, combined with
tli Christmas season, is putting the
Omaha women to t sever test in
opening their homes for community
meetings for the educational pro
gram of the war work council. How
ever, in spite of these difficulties,
15 women in various parts of the
city have not only opened their,
homes for these meetings, but have
assumed the task of telephoning
their neighbors and friends. As a
result about 500 women have been
met by the staff who would not
otherwise have had the privilege.
In addition to these community
gatherings, enthusiastic groups of
girls interested in the question of
their own physical and mental fit
ness have gathered in the Y. W. C

Social Settlement.
The staff will remain in the city
until December 20. A partial

when one does not wish to fuss,
there are numerous "tidbits" that
are easily prepared and deliciously
appetizing. The sandwiches with
tasty toasted fillings are excellent,
and much liked by hungry men of
Tasty Toasted Sandwich Filling.
You will need one cream cheese,
one large tablespoonful of butter,
one tablespoonful and a half of grat-.
ed onion, one heaping tablespoon
ful of French mustard, half a jar of
anchovy paste, one small teaspoon
ful of paprika, a little salt and about
one teaspoonful of powdered cara
way seed. (Any chemist will pow
der caraway seed). Blend all well
and spread on thinly sliced toasted
white or brown bread for sand
wiches. This filling may also be used for
canapes, with a thin slice of tomato
placed on top and covered lightly
with mayonnaise. Garnish with
minced chives and slices of pimento
olives.
Orange Cocoanut Cream.
Mix one grated cocoanut, one cup
ful of sugar, the beaten yolks of four
eggs, the juice of three oranges and
the juice and rind of one lemon. Add
this beaten mixture to one pint of
boiling water in which has been dis
solved one ounce of granulated gel
atin. This must be 'chilled and served
in the hollowed orange shells.
Peach Stone Salad.
Drain a can of large solid peaches.
Lay one-half on a nest of lettuce
strips and fill the cavity with a ball
of chopped almonds, dates and can
died cherries. Surround the ball
with a whipped cream mayonnaise,
tinted green.
Olive Sandwiches.
Chop pitted olives rather fine; add
a saltspoonful of onion juice and a
dash of paprika; mix with .heavy
mayonnaise that has been made with
tarragon vinegar. If chives and fresh
tarragon leaves are at hand mince
them and use them instead of the
onion juice, making the mayonnaise
with lemon juice instead of tarra
gon vinegar. Onion juice is easily
obtained by cutting a slice from the
root end of an onion drawing back
the skin and pressing the onion on
a coarse grater, working with a ro
tary motion. ,

pouring one pint of hot tomato juice
Some Recipes for
- Christmas
This is the time of the year to be
gin on Christmas puddings and
cakes. The cakes are best after
they are about a month old, but are
acceptable as soon as they are cold
enough to eat. The wise house
keeper will make her Christmas pud
dings now, and make a few extra
ones to be- heated and used for the
dinner dessert.
Mincemeat, too, can be made now
and kept on hand. Home-made
mincemeat is not much trouble to
make ,and is always appreciated by
those who like mince pie.
These recipes are not inexpensive,
but if the cakes and puddings are
carefully made and kept for special
occasions they will go a long ways.
Always cut them with a very sharp
knife to avoid the waste through
crumbling.

Curl Hair This Way
and Keep It Healthy
It has been found that the occasional
nse of a harmless and inexpensive fluid
whieh drugKists know as "silmerine," will
keep the straightest hair in curl perpet
ually, giving the appearance of true nat
uralness, besides keeping the hair softer
and glossier than possible with the heated
iron. The liquid may be applied with a
clean tooth - brush, this being ' drawn
through the hair from crown to. tip and
allowed to dry over night.
In the morning the hair will be beauti
fully wavy and curling, and will lie easily
and loosely on the head, as it should, con
sidering its welfare from a hygienic stand
point. A few ounces of liquid silmerine
will last for months and as it is really
beneficial to the hair, which cannot be snid
of the heated iron, it should be generally
adopted by the fair sex. It will not spot
or discolor scalp or hair, nor leave any
sediment, grease or stickiness.
To Properly Treat
Obstinate Wrinkles
Particularly where wrinkles are long and
deep, the massage devotee is apt to rub
too hard and too frequently. This loosens
the skin, causes muscles to sair, aggra
vates the wrinkled condition just the op
posite result from that sought.
Better than massage, or anything else,
fur the most obstinate wrinkles, as well
a the finest lines, is a reinavkiible form
ula which you may readily avail yourr!i
of. as you will have no 'liflicuity in pro
curing the constituents from your dniK
gist. It is this : One ounce of powdered
aaxolile, dissolved in one-half pint witch
hazel. Bathe face, neck and hands in
this. The effect is really marvelous, not
only as to wrinkles, but also in cases of
baggy cheeks and chin. The application
is refreshing and soothing, tending to re
lieve fatigue. Both the witch hazel and
the saxolite are, of course, entirely harm
less to the skin. -

EVEN at your middle age you can get
rid of nearly all those wrinkles. Get
a two-ounce package of eptol from
your druggist. It will cost about fifty
cents. Mix this with a tablespoonful of
glycerine in a half pint of water. The
cream which results is very rich, and yet
ran and should be used liberally. This
will make the texture of the skin much
finer, and as a result of it becoming more
plump, the large and small wrinkles will
soon be found to have almost entirely
disappeared.
MISS G. M. P. You will be able to get
rid of those blackheads In a few moments.
You don't have to wait weeks to produce
the result. Sprinkle a little neroxin on a
wet cloth and rub the blackheads with
this for a few minutes and when you look
in the mirror you will see nearly every
blackhead cone. The neroxin costs about
fifty eentf at the drug store. Repeat the
application of neroxin for several days and
you will be rid of them completely.
GOODNESS It is more difficult for hair
to grow luxuriantly when the scalp re
tains that film of scale and fatty accumu
lations which forms on all scalps. The
only way to remove it. absolutely is not to
use soap, but something which will dis
solve it away. For this purpose use a
teaspoonful of eggol in a bait cup of
water as a shampoo. This will let your

MISS T. R. T. Women who know the
best and simplest way to remove., super
fluous hairs go about it by dissolving
them away. They do not use many of the
pastes and powders commonly ,sod. They
do not use anything to irritate and reduVn
the skin. The only way to dissolve away
hair and so that it leaves no reddeninv
or irritation, is tn moisten the hairs wi'h
sulfo solution which , can be obtained, for
one dollar at any drug store. It will nevxr
fail to satisfy you completely. ;

Nota Bite of
Breakfast Until
You Drink Water
Says a glass of hot water and
phosphate prevents illness
and keeps us fit
Just as coal, when it burns, leaves
behind incombustible ashes, so the
food and drink taken day after day
leaves in the alimentary canal in
digestible material, which if not
completely eliminated from the sys
tem each day, becomes food for the
millions of bacteria which infest the
bowels. From this mass of left
over waste, toxins and ptomaine
like poisons are formed and "sucked
into the blood.
Men and women who can't get
feeling right must begin to take in
side baths. Before breakfast each
morning drink a glass of hot water
with a teaspoonful of limestone
Dhosphate in it to; wash out of the
bowels the previous day's poisons
and toxins, and to keep the entire
alimentary canal clean, pure and
fresh.
Those who are subject to sick
headache, colds, biliousness, consti
pation, others who wake up with
bad taste, foul breath, backache,
rheumatic stiffness, or have a sour,
gassy stomach .after meals,' are
urged to get a quarter pound of )
limestone phosphate from the drug
store, and begin practicing internal
sanitation. This will cost very little. 1
but is sufficient to make anyone an '
enthusiast on the subject '
