ARE women entitled to equal pay
for equal . work with men?
They are, though they don't
often Ret it. That is one side of the
question. Do they give equal serv
ice with men in most occupations
where they are competitors. This
is another side. For while there
are many lines of work in which
women are more adept and compe
tent than men, man has the natural
advantage where physical endur
ance is a test. How can a woman
overcome this obstacle to her con
tinued progress as a human being?
This nuestion will be one of the
phases of health discussed in Omaha
during the two weeks Hcginning De
cember 8, bv a staff of medical wo
men who are brought here by the
wa.r work council of the Y. VV. C. A.
This council had charge of. emerg
ency work under the United States
government during the war in edu
cational work among won't 1 and
children along lines of health and
hygiene. Miss Esse V. Hathaway
supervisor of organizers for the war
vork council is now fit Omaha, ar
ranging for places of meetings. The
furl administration has approved
of Miss Hathaway's plan to hold
lectures at places where heat i al
ready provided.. Private homes will
1e in demand and offers are now be
ing extended to Miss Hathaway and
Miss Joyce Lapham at the Fonte
nelle hotel.
Dr. Clara Greenough, who has
just returned from two years abroad
and Dr. Amanda Bray of Massa
chusetts, are two women of national
repute who will appear. Dr. Mar
garet Hammond of Lincoln and Dr.
Emeha Brandt of Omaha are other
members of the lecture staff. Their
aole purpose in coming to Omaha, at
it was tn Lincoln where a similar
campaign is just closing, is the edu
cation of women and girls to 100
per cent fitness in heattrT and a con
sideration of their social responsi

Lovelorn
BY BEATRICE FAIRFAX
A Persistent Suitor.
Dear Miss Eairfax, Omaha Bee: I
have been reading your "Advice to
the Lovelorn" for quite a while ana
consider your advice splendid, so I
think you could help me, too.
Now, I hav a boy friend out
west, where he has been since April.
Before he went away he asked me
to marry him, but I refused because
I wanted to be nothing but a mere
friend. Since he has been there he
has written to me o couple of times,
stating that I promised to marry
him. I have answered both of these
letters and explained that I did not
promise him, but he does not seem
to comprehend. What should I do
In this case?
He has written me that he wants
to com out here Christmas. Now,
I'll be terribly busy around that
time and shall not be able to be with
him very much. As he haa no other
friends here besides myself, his time
would not be very well occupied.
How shall f write him and tell him
this situation without offending
him?
How is my writing?
Thanking you in advance, sin
cerely, BERTHA.
Have you ever given him reason
to think that your "no" means
"yes?" If not, a plain, simple letter
from you, saying you will have no
time to give him a Christmas and
assuring him you do not consider
yourself engaged to him, should
penetrate to the recesses of his
brain and give him the correct im
pression of your feeling for him.

Seriously In Love.
Dear Miss Fairfax, Omaha -Bee:
Note your advice in the Lovelorn
column regarding love affairs, etc.
I want to ask your opinion as fol
lows: I am a middle-aged gent of 86
years and ser usly in love with, I
think, the mosc loveable and sweet
est woman in the world (beg par
don), three years my senior, but she
don't look over SO. On account of
the three years' difference in our
ages she is under the Impression
there is too much disparity in our
ages to get married. Do you think
the three years' difference should
stand between our future happi
