Telegram.) Five of the six repre-"
sentatives from Nebraska responded .
to roll call today, when the house
began the long session of the Sixty
sixth congress, Congressman Reavis
being the only absentee of the dele
gation. Congressman Andrews ar
rived from Hastings yesterday after
a 10 days' visit to the Fifth district,
much of the time being spent with
constituents having matters before
the war risk bureau of the Treasury
department, the Department of Ag
riculture and the interior.
Mr. Andrews said he found the
district in splendid condition polit
ically so far as theeoublican party
was concerned, witn here and there
tlk over presidential possibilities.
-He brought back the interesting
news that a boom for General Per
shing for president was beinr or
ganized in Lincoln. He said there
wa? considerable interest manifest
in General Leonard Wood'j behalf,
while Governor Lowden of Illinois
was also being favqrnblv disoseed
in certain quarters. Senator Hard
ing of Ohio hatr- also a number of
influential friends actively at work
but he admitted that General
Wood's name was1- more frenuently
mentioned in connection withMhf
republican nomination than any of
the others at this time'.
Judge Evans arrived this morning.
Senators Hitchcock and Norris
were present when the senate con
vened today, Senator Hitchcock
having been selected with Senator
Lodge to notify the president that
"a quorum of the senate was pres
ent and readv to receive any com
munication he might desire to
make."

After perfunctory sessions at
which the annual appropriation es
timates aggregating $4,865,000,000
were presented, both ..enate and
house adjourned until N tomorrow,
when President Wilson's message
will be read and legislative work
started in earnest.
The senate was in session 23 min
utes, and the house remained tech
nically at work for four hours, but
considered only minor bills requir
ing unanimous consent. Gallery
crowds were much smaller than
usual. t
iThe president's message, which is
to be read separately iti the senate
and house, went to the printer to
day and is expected to be brief.
.Mr. Wilson's illness prevents its
delivery in person andjalso 'caused
a slight change in the opening pro
gram. Instead of appointing coin
mittens to "wait" on the president,
the senate and house had their com
mittees send a note to Mr. Wilson
notifying' him of the new session.
The note was delivered to Secretary
Tumulty, who replied that the presi
dent would transmit his message.

permanent chairmanship of Secre
tary of Labor Wilson, another at1

ond industrial conference called by
President Wilson. Herbert Hoover
was elected permanent vice chair
man and Stanley Kiug of Boston,
temporary seewtary.
In opening the conference Mr,
Wilson recited the general situation
which required new deliberations by
delegates, all of whom have been
prominent in public life and few
of v om have been identified witli
either side in industrial controversy
of the past. '
The general field of activities to
be covered and the best methods of
dealing with each subject" were dis
cussed without a decision being
reached. The cost, of living and oth
er problems of the day entered into
the talk.
None of the delegates would ven
ture an opinion as to when the con
ference would finish its task.

Trade Heavily With Germany
Washington, Dec. 1. Since the
signing of the armistice the United
States and Great Britain have re
sumed heavy trading with Germany,
as shown in reports made public by
the Department of Commerce.
Exports from the United States
to Germany forthe first 10 months
of the year totaled $52,420,000 and
imports from Germany $4,914,787.
Great Britain, from the signing
of the armistice to October 1, ex
ported to Germany goods valued at
more than $80,000,000 and received
impofts from Germany valued at
$1,085,000.
