The initia tive recently submitted to congress by President Carranza providing for a "Banco Unico del Republico" and a new system of credits has been vrithdrawn by the executive, who explained that changed conditions made the withdrawal necessary. The newspapers here, however, assert that the Department of Treasury is ttill at work on a new banking law which may be presented to congress shortly. Terrier Travels 5,000 Miles. Fire Whistles Increase Insurance Rates Topeka, Kan., Oct 10. Fire whis tles are almost a thing of the past in Kansas. The reason is because the fire insurance companies charge higher rates in towns where there are fire whistles. The companies declare that a whistle is an added risk because telephone patrons will call up to learn the location of the fire when they hear the whistle and the work of calling the firemen volunteers is greatly delayed, often resulting in heavy losses. Cape Cod Reports , . Big Cranberry Crop Plymouth, Mass. Oct 10. Cape Cod's cranberry bogs have produced plenty of cranberries this year to go with the turkey on Thanksgiving. A government agent reported tht estimates furnished by the growers show 350.000 barrels of cranberries, which is 150,000 barrels greater than last year's crop.
