THE OMAHA BEE. 9 "Demobilized" Eiffel Tower Stormed by Yanks for View of Paris Farii, Sept. 17. The Eiffel tower has. been "demobilized" and has again became one of the most popu lar places of amusement in Paris. During the opening of its return to the public the giant tower was stormed by American officers and doughboys anxious to make the giddy elevator climb to the top, from which a rnagnificant panora mic view of Paris and its suburbs for miles around can be obtained. When the War Department took over the Eiffel tower at the begin ning of August, J914, witty French men gave it the name of the "tall est constrript in France." Since then it has been used without inter mission as the military wireless station of France, and although frequently attacked by Fokkers ar.d Gothas by day and night, it was never once hit. i Has Short Career as an "Astor;" Gets 3 Years Springfield, Mo., Sept. 17! Three years in the Missouri penitentiary was the sentence imposed upon C J. Jones, who came to this city and, after representing himself ai a member of the Astor family, passed bogus checks. Jones signed the checks "J. A. Astor." He claimed to be a nephew of the late John Jacob Astor. His "career" as a member of the Astor family came to an untimely end when he attempted to open an account in a local bank with a check for $100 that was found to be no good. Drowns In Bathtuo St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 17. Miss Lee Wagner, a maid at the Plant er's hotel, drowned in a bathtub at the hotel. She was subject to faint ing spells and, is believed, was over come while taking a bath. Predicts Highest Tax 1 Rate in Boston's History Boston, Sept. 17.
